Graphite wedge shaft - light weight

Hi all,

From last post, I was advised to somewhat match wedge shaft with that of my iron. The problem is my iron shaft is super light 57g. (XXIO7), and I couldn't find wedge shaft on that range. So, any advice will be welcomed. Thanks in advance.

Mark, I respectfully disagree that wedges should match the rest of the set in lightness. As a matter of fact, I find it should be heavier and even stiffer since they are scoring clubs. I play irons in 50 to 60g stock jdm R flex but my 50 and 54 Titleist forged are 75 stiff graphite and 58 sand is nsporo 850. I couldn't be happier with this combo.

Opinions are like... What is that saying again... I use the W shaft that I put into my irons. To say that only 50* and higher is a scoring club is a problem. I would say 8 iron and down at least should be scoring clubs...

Thanks. Below is my reason.

I bought wedges separately and am now having problem that those wedges (now in iron shafts) give me noticeably not the same feeling as my 5i-PW set. Trying to change those shafts of 50/56/60 to graphite for that but just couldn't decide which one should I go. My 5i-PW comes with stock shafts so can't buy it either.

Hello, you could get the GW and SW of your XXIO7 serie. If memory serve me well, the GW is 50° and the SW 56°.

Personally, I would get the GW and get a "real" SW with a steel shaft. The head of the SW of the the serie is quite big.

I'm kinda thinking back and forth between doing that and use real/famous wedges for all 50/56/60. Now, I just decided to do the latter but got a bit problem with the shafts. The Chikara head will come to me next week.

Mark, you can consider Crazy, Quadra or Roddio I-8 in SR. I have the I-8 SR in a 51 and 56 Sky Dream Jump to complement a set of OnOff Red with I-6 R 5-pw but hard step once. The I-6R and I-8SR is a very good combo FOR ME.

Hi Mark,

I see that you are a 28HDC, no disrespect here, but IMHO I would get the GW from XXIO7 and keep the SW with a steel shaft.

I would use the SW only in the sand. That's what I did for quite awhile.

I am a HDC 19, and It's only lately that I started to use a GW with a steel shaft.

It's much more easy to control your GW with a graphite shaft from 70 yards, and less to the hole, than your 56° steel shaft.

MArk,

I just saw this. I play NS pro 75 for me irons and pretty much all my wood shafts are in the 50s range. I play Shimada NW 110 in my PW, 50 and 54 and NW120 in my 60. Really no issues and I prefer a bit more weight for wedges where I do not take all out swings. I find the added weight is better for finesse shots or so I think I can play finesse shots LOL.

I tried the Quadra Proto wedge shaft as well at 115 gras and I think that too is a great shaft. Different feel to the shimada but very consistent.

R, can you tell me what's CPM of your I-8 in your wedges? My stock shafts of XXIO7 should be quite similar to your I-6 R.

A, agree. I put my Chikara 52' into NGS Machline 70g S but cut it a bit and now its profile is SR. HIt it today and didn't like it. Maybe becoz of very crisp feel of Chikara. I hit my OnOff RED AW with NSPro 750 R much consistent (but to me the feeling of XXIO7 is much much better.. not sure it's from partly forged of XXIO or graphite shaft). Did you get SDJ from Bangkok? I live here but never saw one.
