Spoon
ok guys i dont want to over analyze. i have tried all the shafts there is to try in FWoods with the exception of the FEX and FW80. anyway the DJ7 is the best FW shaft i have owned. easy to elevate and easy off the tee. just want to try something in another head. the DJ7S is 74.5 w a tq of 2.9, nice pronunced kick high launch mid spin. so spec wise i should be looking at 7.4 in fw80? how do these feel? taut? may even consider 7.7 but want a softer feeling controllable FW wood. help thanks
wmclarenf1
I would say definitely a stiff in the FW80 and if you want contorl, erring on the side of being stiffer will give you that. ALso, what I have found is that 80T shafts tend to feel stiffer and maybe actually do play a tad suffer. I doubt the DJ is even a 40T. I tried the FW80 and play the FEX FW55. FW80 is just slightly heavier for the 6.4 tat I used to play but the feel was a lot more dull in the FW80 compared to the FEX FW. I think this is also done to the fact the FW80 is 80T and the FEX FW55 is what ever tonnage but not 80T I am quite sure.

Feel wise, the FEX 55 being only 3 to 4 grams lighter than the FW80 but less HMCF content, was a lot better than the FW80 for ME. I have had a couple of PM chats with a couple of others here and I think they shared the same sentiment on feel which at the end of the day is very individual and hence subjective. Sorry to contribute to your confusion.
nambo
I play the BB7 and DJ7 in drivers and have FW80 6.9 in YammyFW. I think the DJ 7S would fall between the 6.9 and 7.2. I havent played the DJ in a FW but experimented with a 9003S which does seem a tad tighter than the 6.9. THe 6.9 does indeed feel very smooth. gian11
Try the QFex Proto FW. It does feel very smooth & controllable, I prefer this over FW80.

jaygolf
FEX beats any fairway wood i've tried as far as feel and workability are concerned. Not very long but so damn easy to get up and going.
jaygolf
On the other hand, off the tee, a BB7 is pretty amazing. Penetrating, long, low... Depends what you use your 3w for most. Fairway shots or going for the green, FEX, off the tee BB. In my opinion...

The dj is awesome just too much spin for qttacking greens Ideal would be the DI but in another brand.. I seldom attack the green on my home course i can reach one with a long iron while The others i use a my wood for placement. So the wood is mostly for placement on tight par 4s. How low is low? Is the bb like the 9003?

Is the bb like the 9003? Depends on your game bro. My trajectories are naturally high so I tend to need something to bring it down a bit. So for me, the bb isn't that low, just a lot lower than the fex with much more roll. The fex will go up and stop on the green, the bb will pitch once, twice if the green is large enough and it lands with enough space around it for the second bounce. But sometimes it just flies off, especially if the greens are hard. I can't compare it to the 9003 as I've never tried it. Never tried the DI either. Easier to get a fade out of the fex than the bb. Fex is just an easy peasy shaft. But, this goes without saying...what works for me might not work for you or perform the same way.

So something of similar trajectory with lower spin .. Guess the BB is out then as i put a value On the height. How about the sigma 50 ? RIduffer
We know what Stew does… Walks in looks to his right, then his left, asks his wife for his wallet and says I'll take two… Not exactly sure how Spoon's OCD would take to all the possibilities... He probably asks for Stew's wallet also! This isn't right, it's the middle of the night in the PI, poor fella can't defend himself.
shacco
I have a non proto fex fw55 in a jbeam fx bm hg 5w. Can't compare it to crazy but it's a very smooth shaft. I'm loving the light weight. Surprisingly enough it seems to be not spinning too much and ball flight is very penetrating and definitely not high. It's mid flight and pretty neutral to me. Not curving left nor right. Just straight. Can't comment much on distance coz it is the first shaft in that head. But it feels great and gets the job done. gian11
Gian, Have you tried the non-Proto FEX FW? If yes, how do they differ? Only tried the Proto model. I fell in love when I first tried it with the Cally X Hot FW because of that smooth feel & kick, I'll hit that thing all day.
Spoon
Look at it this way because of my hardcore metality on taking no prisoners with idle Clubs i have to get the same gear over again, repeat 2 or 3 x lol. As we speak Im building 22/25 901s w aerotech. Deja vu x 2 I dont buy gear to hoard. I buy gear to replace
Mob
GraphiteDesign just came out with a new shaft called the Tour AD GT, which is supposed to be a fairway wood version of the BB, but alittle easier to get up in the air. This may match what you are looking for. I bought the crazy fw80 7.4 in anticipation of putting it in my Callaway X Hot pro 3 wood when it arrives. Unfortunately, I won't be able to report back for at least another month.
