wmclarenf1
EGG 3I+ is 19*. I'm looking for something that can replace this and the EGG HD which is 14.5*. Not concerned about getting on in 2 for Par 5s as that is always a big ask of me and a low probability shot for me. I'm looking for possibly 3W distance off the tee if possible and something as easy to launch off the deck as the EGG I+. In short DISTANCE AND FORGIVENESS. How will the Romaro i-Brid i2 17* or the latest Type R 18* UT serve these purposes? Feel wise, I'm sure these will feel better than the EGG I+. Any other possibilities? Thanks. Duffer19
A, I am also having all sort of problem with FW including my old trusty 17* #4. Instead of looking for another FW, I picked up a new old 2009 Cobra Baffler DWS in 16* to replace my 3/4 FW and it works. While Ut1 might not have the same distance as my 3fw, the ut flies slightly lower and runs more. LIke it so much, I bought a used 2008 Cobra TWS 20* for $50. I was actually looking at the i-bird too but they are too expensive as an experiment. I now have the cheapo version.
wmclarenf1
Thanks duff. I've tried the baffler in the past and just never say well with my eye go some reason. I have the same concern with the ibrid too. That boxy Adams look... But if it will work... Somehow, the scooped out look of the eggs look alright to me.. Just like the Cleveland halos.. Weird eh. akapur
I recently got the S-Yard XV fairway wood and the older Romaro UT 18. I have about 2 rounds with each so far and find them to be good alternates to my Egg. I was also looking to get on in two on most Par 5's. The Romaro is excellent off the ground forgiving and long. The Syard is great when hitting off a tee. I have had trouble getting the XV up from a grassy lie. So far neither is perfect but I will continue to work them out until one is the clear winner. Will post again after the 4 rounds i have coming up this week.
robbie
ive recently sold off my egg hybrid and my egg fws....the best replacement i have found to date is the original Kasco K2K !!! as easy to launch as the egg hybrid and has superior distance.....they might be super cheap but they flat out perform
wmclarenf1
Any other suggestions for a 16* or 17* UT/hybrid?
Spoon
go ROMARO type r ute. cant go wring with that. that was actially my first choice. i prefer brids on 20/23 as they play more like irons imho.
wmclarenf1
Thanks Carlo. I'm looking for a 16 or 17 but prefer the former as hopefully that wil replace both my PRGR HD and EGG 3I+. Type R only comes in 18* strongest and there are unfortunately too many Romaros floating around without original head covers and I'll leave it at that ;-) That said, is the Type R more FW like or UT like? Does that make sense... LOL Edited July 24, 2013 by wmclarenf1
Duffer19
What makes the Romaro type R or otherwise different than any other ut on the market? Very few would have 16* and perhaps a few might have 17*. Take a look at the new Srixon.

I think you;re referring to the XXIO7 UT? Have you tried it? How is it forgiveness wise?
Duffer19
I am actually not thinking about XXIO but Srixon. http://www.tourspecgolf.com/product_info.php?products_id=4751 XXIO would probably be easier but it was quite a few years ago when I first hit one. You could be the first one to try the new Srixon and give us a review.

wmclarenf1
I may "corrupt" my JDM bag by bringing back a Cleveland Halo 14* or 16*. Dirt cheap now as you can imagine LOL.
JayDM
Why do you want to replace the EGG I+ utes?
wmclarenf1
Why do you want to replace the EGG I+ utes? It's more the egg hd I want to replace. Just have never been good with FWs.
JayDM
I don't think you'll find anything in a ute that will give you near as much distance as a stronger lofted 3 metal, especially a club designed for easy distance like the EGG, the TRC bbd's utes usually come out with a 17*, but those aren't really distance focused utes.... Maybe try a stronger lofted 3 wood that's geared more towards control with a smaller head, and deeper face, it'll set up more like a utility and give you the distance of a FW.... I've at times replaced a 3 wood in the bag with the TRC 17* ute/ Crazy ute shaft combo, but normally that's when the course or conditions call for it, I've more than once wished I could get rid of the 3 wood entirely, but I just haven't really found anything that's a true replacement for it.... You're yardage gaps will just be massive if you have a driver and then something like the I-brid 17* in the bag as you're next longest club, but if you're 100% dead set on getting rid of the 3 metal I wouldn't focus so much on the loft, an easier to hit 18* is going to go further for you than more of a control oriented 17* or even 16* utility, shaft is a big deal too... I have a RomaRo ray forged type R 18* with the Quadra proto UT shaft in it, and in good weather it's consistently longer than the TRC 17* with Crazy ute shaft. I agree with you. 2 on for par 5 distance is not what I am after just longer than my egg 3i+ 19*. A friend has an I-brid 17 which he is lending me so we'll se how that goes. I'm really not good with FWs so with. Probably due to the length so with a 40.5 I-brid 17, hopefully that'll be it buy yes, still won't have the distance of 3w. Just want something which is more confidence which I can hit long with more predictability. I'm generally better with irons anyways.

wmclarenf1
On the suggestion of a couple here, I looked and found an old beat up kasco 33 16 hybrid. Not the super Gutenberg face but the maraging model. Took it to the range and it was surprisingly easy to hit and seemed long. Feel is closer to a persimmon kinda feel and had at twacky sound. Will take it out for a round and see how it goes. If it's ok, will give it a new lease of life with a Fuji MCH shaft.
