Posted October 12, 201410 yr Hi guys, just need some advice. I fitted my onoff forges into fujikura mci shafts. Am told i cant swap back the heads to a steel shaft as the hosels are mow expanded. Is that true & is there any solutions ? Thks
October 12, 201410 yr Don't understand the part on hosel expenses... I presume your club builder drill the hosel larger to fit the paralle tip. If that's the case, you just need to get a paralle tip instead of a taper tip steel shaft...no biggie. Alternatively your club builder can used a shin to fit the taper tip into the paralle hosel.
October 12, 201410 yr I guess different fitter/builder uses different method. Just built a set of 703 with mci 60. Builder did not want to drill or enlarge hosel instead just shave down the shaft to fit 0.355. His logic is one can replace the shaft easily if it does break but at leat the expensive Epon head is still intact. Some would say 60 g graphite is just too thin in the tip to shave but he did it and so far so good. Edited October 12, 201410 yr by Duffer19
October 12, 201410 yr Channa, there are two school of thoughts with fitter in HK and as Ed said, I am sure they would find a solution such as a shim. Edited October 12, 201410 yr by Duffer19
October 12, 201410 yr Author Thks guys. Ed - using a shin to fit a tapered shaft - will it affect the profile of the shaft ?

Centering the reamer in the hosel is fairly easy to do and you are removing negligible amounts of material that you don't have to worry about the fragility of the steel. Also look at mfg like Miura, who intentionally leave excess material in the hosel expecting the fitter/builder to remove it prior to assembly...
