I wouldn't tip taper tip shafts unless you really know what you're doing and probably not even then....

in terms of graphite shafts, i know some shaft companies should not be tipped or should i say not advised. The reason for this is some shafts are designed with the tip section to kick a specific way and tipping it will nullify the kick.....Basically tipping the shaft stiffens the feel and lowers trajectory a bit but again the amount of tipping will depend on which weight class the shaft is in and the bend profile and the beginning flex itself......Normally 3 woods are tipped about half an inch. When we are talking about iron shafts, parallel shafts can be tipped to a specific freq/flex and taper tips have a marginal amount of play, i believe that in most cases it is safe to tip taper tip iron shafts up to a quarter inch MAX, but i would not advise tipping metal taper tip iron shafts unless you know exactly what you are doing

ya, you can't tip the taper tip irons too much because then it won't fit into the heads unless you then bore out the hosel. which in the long run would be dumb because now every other shaft you put in won't fit in right unless you then tip correctloy. taper tip = the shaft diameter gets larger as you go up the shaft.
