shmutz
I have a R510 TP 9.5 loft with Fuji TP 757 Stiff in it. I love the look of the R510 but hate the shaft. My swingspeed is 109mph and ball speed is 155 mph with a 9.5 Fusion with NV65X. I like the feel of the fusion but my problem is that the trajectory with the NV65 is medium. I want to put something in the R510TP that will posiibly increase the ball speed to around the optimum 160-163 at 109mph and increase the launch angle to a higher trajectory but not at the expense of adding a whole lot of backspin. I also tried a Grafalloy ProLogic Tour X in a buddies R580XD. The shaft is a lot heavier approximately 100 grams. Numbers were the same and Trajectory was the same. The Prologic Tour seemed to have a much tighter dispersion especially when I went after it. Now this could be the 580XD and not the shaft. I need something that will get the ball up quicker and keep it up there and if by chance it gets my ball speed up even better. Any suggestions or advuce would be greatly appreciated. DoubleAA
Shmutz I recommend the Graphite Design YS-7 Stiff, or the Penley ETA Stiff. Both of these shafts I individualy found release well and provide a great launch angle between 11 and 13 degrees, both get the ball airborn quick and both also were designed specifically for larger 400CC + heads. You may find something totaly different, there are tons of choices you could find that work, the Aldila NV is a very popular shaft. I am sure it is a little rough considering your swing speed, the shafting specs for individual swings are demanding and require a lot of thought. It took me 2 months to get the correct combination for my 983K and 580. In both shafts I went with TSX (X-Stiff) for the GD and XX-Stiff for the Penley. I have shortend them to 44.5 inches and found increased and solid ball contact + accuracy and no loss of distance or tempo compared to a 45" - 46" inch shafts. Best of luck to you! tourtunedgolf
Perhaps a Tour Release 27.3 in X flex? :D
joey3108
I would love to help you here as much as possible but from a limited experience w/ Fushion, I don't have an idea how much different the trajectory of those 2 clubs. So I will try to help base on what you got only here. What is your launch angle now? and How much higher you need? And what is your spin rate is ?I will try to reply it one by one from the quote on your post here. I have a R510 TP 9.5 loft with Fuji TP 757 Stiff in it. I love the look of the R510 but hate the shaft. My swingspeed is 109mph and ball speed is 155 mph with a 9.5 Fusion with NV65X. IMO NV65 X flex on a blind bore w/ no hosel type head is a bit to much for your 109mph swing speed, unless if you have a very quick tempo.I like the feel of the fusion but my problem is that the trajectory with the NV65 is medium. I want to put something in the R510TP that will posiibly increase the ball speed to around the optimum 160-163 at 109mph 5-8 mph x tra is not and easy task from a 65 grams shaft, you need to try a lot of shafts combination to achieve this issue only and you might have to disregards other important aspect. and increase the launch angle to a higher trajectory but not at the expense of adding a whole lot of backspin. Most of the low kick point shaft will help you on this issue but it's not that easy to find one that doesn't increase your spin rate, unless if we can find you w/ a low kick shaft and tip stiff. Honestly I don't know which shaft have those kind of spec. Mid kick tip stiff "YES", but not on a low kick tip stiff. At least not to my knowledge yet. IMHGO, It shows here that the issue here is more on loft of the club not on the shaft. Just my 2 cents! Hope that help your decision, but if are looking to increase your trajectory, Just like Robbie said " tour release" should do the trick. Good luck! shmutz
Unfortunately I have not had the opportunity to swing with a Launch Monitor so I don't know the spin rate or launch angle. Joe I am a hitter and not a swinger. When I try to go after the NV65X I tend to over hook the ball and it tends to fly lower. The 580XD tour has 10.5 degree loft and has a Grafalloy Prologic Tour X in it at 44.5 and a swing weight of D4. I get the same 109mph out of it with a pretty tight dispersion no matter how hard I swing. Ball flight again is medium. Joe I would like to get a shaft that has a little more oomph in it. The flight of the R510TP and the R580XD is similar but I prefer the look of the smaller head in the R510. I want a shaft that feels more lively and not dead like the 757. Got any Fuji suggestions that may fit the bill??
shmutz
Joe; what about the Fujikura 652 in a X??? What's your opinion?

Joe I am a hitter and not a swinger. When I try to go after the NV65X I tend to over hook the ball and it tends to fly lower.Speaking from my experiences again here ( i hope you don't mind ), My guess your swing get tighter ( makes you pick the club a bit more ) and quicker and shorter on the top, and on the down swing your body possition gets a little to far to the front ( sway ), in result you end up double cross it w/ a delofting club face due to swaying a bit to much in front of the ball. Why I'm saying all this? Because it doesn't make sense if the shaft is stiff enough( even stiffer than it supposed to be )make a snap hook on you if your swing plane is in a correct possition. Again this is only my best guess, to look at it exactly what happend, You need a good pro w/ a slow motion camera to check every angle of your swing. Got any Fuji suggestions that may fit the bill?? The shafts on top of my head now are 553, 569, 652, 660, and PRO3. But any of these shafts won't help you if never check your swing first. Oh , one more thing, When you hit the heavier and shorter shaft you gets more consistent, It's normal case for a hitter. They get more feel out of heavier shaft. No doubt about it. cheers, joe
shmutz
Thanks Joe. You are correct when I go after it I do tend to get a little ahead of the ball and then compensate by pulling in and across instead of staying back and extending. Got keep it smooth....... lohrm1
Perhaps a Tour Release 27.3 in X flex? :D Or the 26.3 in an X tipped. GREAT shaft...
