Posted April 13, 200420 yr Would anyone happen to have any first hand experience with these two shafts. I would appreciate any comments re: feel, ball flight, distance etc. Thanks. Greg
April 13, 200420 yr I have not played the rifle lite, but just started playing NSpro 950 in my Mizuno MP 27's. I have only played 2 rounds with them, but I am very impressed thus far. When I first got my irons, if felt shockingly lite. The NSPRO 950 only weighs in at 95g, compared to my DG R300 which come in at 127g. As lite as the shaft is, it is still very stable. Medium ball flight with a piercing trajectory. The ball does not balloon at the end of flight. I would have to say that I am getting a little more distance with these shafts but that is probably partially attributed tp the new club heads. If you are looking for an ultra-lite steel shaft for your irons, I would highly recommend the NSPRO 950.
April 13, 200420 yr I have not played Rifle Lites but have played the Nippon NS Pro 95 in a Ping G2 HL 3i and it gets a mid to highish flight with a very soft feel. It does not balloon, it just gets up there. Nice shaft for a long iron or hybrid as Nippons have a midkick. In regular irons (mine are MX-23), 4-PW, I prefer the Nippon 1050s - The shaft is 110g in stiff, less in regular, and feels very solid yet soft. Very consistent and accurate from shaft to shaft. Ball flight not as high as the Pro 95. Both Nippons absorb a lot of shock and feel very soft. The feel is like a soft Rifle. If interested, you need to be aware of the flex as the Nippon seems to play a bit weaker than normal flex. I think Chip Usher said the stiff plays to about a 5.3. He hardstepped mine to achieve a 5.7. So be sure to discuss flex with a qualified Nippon dealer and clubmaker before purchase.
April 14, 200420 yr I have played both in my irons. Nippons are better feeling, softer and more solid. slightly higher ball flight but nothing that is a problem. I really prefer the Nippons. d**k
April 14, 200420 yr I havn't played rifle lite 5.0. I have played the regular rifle 5.0 and nspro950. I played the 5.0 in TM FF and NSPro in ts-202. They are both swing weight at D1, but the FF was 1/4" shorter than the ts-202. I hit both shafts on nice high trajectory. Nspro has a smoother feel. It's hard to compare the distances, because the ts-202 has stronger lofts than the FF. I read in the Golfsmith catalog the rifle lite has a high flex point, so your ball flight might be lower than nspro. You might want to give the rifle airlite a try. I heard it's a nice shaft.
