lefty19
I found a guy in my area with a launch monitor to figure out what kind of shaft I need for my 9.5TM360XD. In it is a Grafalloy Prolite 3.5 stiff. I used the ball I typically play with, a ProV. Averages were done by 28 swings, throwing out the 3 highest/lowest of the group. 1.ball speed:183mph 2.clubhead speed:126 mph 3. 13.6* launch angle (Guy said that was terrible) 4.something to do with Apex?62 yds. 5.side spin he said was good, he said it stayed around +/- 300 rpm. 6.ball spin 4460rpm's( guy said that this was terrible as well) 7.He said something about smash factor was 1.45, and could be a tad better? 8.avg carry:288 yds 9.avg roll:6yds 10.I wrote all this stuff down to make sure I got a/an opinion!!! He suggested I go with a 7.5 983K or a 8.5 983E driver with a good quality shaft like a NV 75X or some Fuji shaft he had. I would like to stay with the TM, but can a shaft make enough difference to get the ball speed down and the launch angle better? I have an old Ping TiTec 7* I could break out of the closet and do some tests with? Is this guy trying to get me to buy another driver? Any thoughts would be appreciated! Jef
Don´t know why you would want a lower ball speed, (if you did that your " smash factor" would be lower) Smash factor is the ball speed / swing speed relation and the goal should be 1.50 (IE 100 mph swing 150mph ball speed). launch angle could be OK if you got the backspin down to around 3000- 3200 should give you more roll instead of 6 yards My opinion...... try pro-v X, get a shaft that is tip stiff and you wont need to change heads. hope this helps! gatorgrad
Sounds like you need a low spin, low launch shaft. The first one that comes to mind is the Fujikura Vista Tour Series or the Aldila NV. Both are low launch tip stiff shafts. The Fuji is a little lower launch and may fit you better. benny
After you turn pro... Have the tour van set you up with a ProV1x and Aldila NV 85, you should be bombin' it out there with Tiger and that Kuhne guy. :surprize: Back to reality though, with a swing speed like that you will get better results with a V1x ball and a least an X flex shaft, anything else is too eratic... g
forgedcrazy
if you want to stay with that head i suggest trying a fuji vista tour 70X you will need to tip 3/4 inch and change ball to pro v1 x.
Epuller
Anything to get your Spin rate down between 2800-3500 rpms will increase your carry and increase your roll on landing. I would agree with the V1x. You seem to have a higher swing speed, and you could benifit from penetrating the core of the X over the standard V1. Guest golfallday
I have similar numbers on a launch monitor as well. I put an Aldilia NV 85 in a 983K. We took a stiff shaft and tipped it 1 in. When we did a full insertion in the Titleist head ( through bore) it came out exactly on an x-stiff. My swingspeed is like yours 118-120 mph and ball speed at 180 mph. This driver along with the prov1-x is a great combination. This is the first shaft that I can't overpower when I really get on one. I went through 4 different shafts until this and it is going to stay for a long time. Best I have ever tried.
