player CB vs "GI" player CB
It seems to me that there is this growing affection on this site for the so called game improvement player CB. By that I mean the slightly oversized, extremely forgiving irons like the MP-27, T-Zoid and the Gauge Design irons. These are different than what I call player CB's. To me player CB's are the MR-23, Z101, MP-30, or Scratch CB. These irons provide incredible feel and feedback, setup IDENTICAL to a blade. I would challange anyone that is holding one of these clubs at address and try and tell it apart from any modern blade offering. Now I don't doubt the technology that is put into these next generation CB's, but for me personally, they are not in the same league as the player CB's. The same way that player CB's don't compare to blades, these new irons in my opinion don't compare to player cb's. Although they do provide more forgiveness and probably for a lot of people more distance... Neither of which are characteristics I look for in a set of irons. Just based on some of the reviews I have seen, they seem somewhat misleading. It's pretty tough to compare 2 totally different clubs. For those of you that own say the MP-27 or GD irons, I'd really love to hear your opinions on this. I'm probably going to get flamed for this one...

need a 52* wedge
Personally I don't get Zodia wedges. I mean just because it's expensive doesn't make it better. Yes from what I understand each one is handmade just like Scratch, what I don't get is the ultra aggressive grinding. I mean the wedges don't look finished. You could get Ari to do a wedge just like a Zodia, in fact I'm sure Slater would love to because it would require 1/10 the work. A lot of the grinding done is to take out those rough edges. I just don't get Zodia's they don't even have a finish. :money:

Honma Drivers-About Star Ratings?
From what I understand the star ratings deal directly with the quality in the shaft. In it's construction and material. According to my dad, which I just bought him a set of 4 star CB's, says the additional stars helps with dampening. Very important at his age. Consistancy/quality, I do believe the stars make a big difference in shafts. It's like buying a fuji vp vs fuji tour shaft. They are both great shafts, but you get what you pay for.

Your favorite stand bag
Jones Golf Hurakan - combines style with function. It's not as light as a hoofer, but lighter than most stand bags, Pocket's are exactly where you need them, easily accessed when walking. Looks very classic, no huge ass banner ads on it as say some of the manufacturers.

Whats your R7 setting?
Well had my first range session and I've discovered that my weight configuration combined with a heavy shaft makes for a VERY heavy driver. A little too much so. I tinkered around with the weights and I think I've found a fairly semi neutral setting which works for me 2 - 8 - 2 - 10 The weights really do affect ball flight I really was impressed. I don't think I'll be changing it before every round, in fact I'm hoping to keep this setting for a while, however I could see possibly switching the 10 over to the heel in case my fade becomes a slice... I love the fact that I have OPTIONS!!! That's the whole damn reason I keep buying new clubs! So as much as I hate to throw money at Taylor Made, I must admit that have developed a driver that finds the fairway. It aint' the prettiest driver out there. It definitely ain't the best feeling driver either. I can't deny the results however. If you are like me where the rest of your game is solid, but you have trouble getting off the tee, you might want to give the R7 a look. Either that or wait for the Fusion with weight configurations or the mag cruizer...

Whats your R7 setting?
Heel to toe 2 - 10 - 10 - 12, Chris you might think the shaft plays strong because you've reduced the headweight so much. When you reduce the SW down to sounds like C9 or so, the shaft doesn't flex as much and probably plays stiffer.

Anyone ever seen a tour IGNITE?
yeah I saw those, but what I'm curious about is if anyone has any experience with it. Is the difference like TM where it's comepletely different? Or is it more like Titty, where it's not really worth the extra money...

Anyone ever seen a tour IGNITE?
Just curious I know there are a few Nike Staff players on these boards, is there a difference? I was thinking of trying out an ignite, but I hadn't seen anything on the boards of people finding IGNITE's are they out there? What's the difference? open face angle, heavier, no serial number... I know there is no "I" on top, that is a plus...

3 wood shaft advice
I have a couple of recomendations. High End I would recomend Fuji HM04, super sweet FW shaft I have a TriTi in my driver and love it because it resembles steel. I have heard people like it in their FW as well. The AJ tech is a really sweet low budget shaft. It's steel with a layer of graphite. Very nice shaft. Hope this helps, good luck!

tip X-100 iron shaft for hybrid?
So, I've been playing with my hybrids now for a few months now, and I must admit they are really easy to hit. However, a problem that seems to arise more and more is this dreaded snap hook. I have s-400 shafts in my 2 and 3 and they feel a little whippy. I'm not sure about the head weight of the hybrid vs the iron head, but I'm sure it's more. I wonder how this affects the flex. Is it possible that I am hooking these things more because the flex is softer? I'm thinking of switching my shafts over to x-100 and I was thinking I would try reshafting my hybrids. Only this time I would tip it to make up for the headweight. What do you guys think?

Scratch (equipment) players: Did your scores improve?
I personally have seen a dramatic improvement in my game. Was it my Scratch wedges? I'm not so sure. I think it was more my commitment to getting serious about golf. I've completely rebuilt my swing since getting my wedges a year ago. Since then I've gotten the irons. My scores haven't really changed between my old irons and my new ones, however I can tell you that I am more confident to try different things with my irons. So although I know golf is about how many, I feel that I am growing as a golfer when I focus on how. I'm trying lots of different shots now, cuts, fades, low runners, I can really do it all with my new irons. This probably has attributed to some lower scores in the interim because I'm experimenting and having fun with my new skill. I'll start keeping score again once I feel really comfortable with all these new shots in my bag, and I'll get back to you. So will Scratch wedges lower your scores? Yes and No. If you don't play much then I don't know if it'll make much of a difference.

need opinions on shafts asap..thanks
I thought you didn't like the feel of rifle? Remember your MR-23 CBs? You thought you didn't like the clubs, but then you put DG in them and they were great. Why do you want to mess with something so good as Dynamic gold? It's the most played shaft for a reason.

It's been 6 months Scratch Iron review update!!!
So I figure everyone is out playing golf just like I am. Summer is in full swing, and I thought I would post my review of my irons. Now as much as I hate to admit it, I have fallen victim to the honeymoon period. :wah: :wah: :wah: So I understand when some of my initial review of clubs is often overlooked. If there ever was a ranking of club hoes I'm pretty sure I would rank in the upper echelons. I've owned a major percentage of modern club offerings in a very short period of time. Just about everything I've owned has been a "holy grail" for at least a week or so. So over the last 6 months or so, I've gone through 3 more drivers, 2 more 3 woods, 4 hybrids, 4 putters. The only constants in my bag have been my Scratch wedges and my Scratch irons. I've hit my friends irons, my friends have hit mine. Although I have seen things I like in other irons, nothing has the complete package to me like my custom Scratch wedges. From address they look almost identical to a tourstage blade. The grind is very Mizuno like. And the finish is also unique, the nickel finish gives it that old school look which I love. If that were all the irons had to offer, as picky as I am that would probably be enough. I am very much the type of golfer where the club has to be right to my eye. I get a lot of confidence when I like the way a club sets up. Thankfully, this is not all these irons have to offer. They are truely a shotmakers club. They are balanced extremely well and I shape the ball either way. The feel is incredible. One thing I had to get used to was that on offcenter hits, impact feels kind of weird, yet the ball still flies. It took me a while to figure that out. They are so forgiving, I didn't realize that I wasn't hitting the ball in the center of the face. Those of you that own the wedges, let me tell you that the CB's are incredibly more forgiving than the wedges, yet they make a good match, since the feel is very similar. I really love my irons and my wedges , and I'm not ashamed to say it. this is really the only place of group therapy where someone my be able to understand that. The right grind to me means that I don't need to worry about the club digging into the ground, or making sure that the club just slices through the grass. It just gives me an incredible amount of confidence when standing over the ball and I don't have to worry about that buried lie in the rough, or chunking it on that thin lie on the fairway. I know that I'm preaching to the choir when I stress the importance of getting the right equipment that fits you. At nearly the same price as most forged irons, i would think its a no brainer for your dream set of irons. Just out of curiousity I would like to start an open discussion on concerns with going custom. Is it the cost? Potential loss in resale value? Don't know what you want? As happy as I am with my irons, I guess I would just like to hear why others haven't tried the same path.
