  1. Here is a pic: and a couple of sites I got info from: http://www.theodoregray.com/PeriodicTable/...4/index.s7.html http://www.espimetals.com/metals/cattungsten.htmq
  2. I did not think there was a need to start a new thread on this & it is related - materials in golf clubs. I heard from a knowledgeable friend of mine that Tungsten is not widely used in golf clubs - certain not as much as we think. First a little bit about what makes Tungsten "special"... it is not its strength anyways - it is in fact quite a weak metal at RT but does have a very high melting point (~3000 *C) though that is not applicable to golf clubs IMHO!! It is dense - thats its speciality from what I have heard. Twice as dense as ordinary steel and over 50% denser than Lead. On a side note - its chemical symbol is W and lead is Pb *stands for plumbum lol* Anyways do you remember the Cally Hawkeye? had to tungsten screw in the heel which led to it being dubbed the Hookeye. Below is an extract on it: Tungsten/zirconium alloy screw plug. Neil Lipson, the source of most of my tungsten and molybdenum, sent me this little plug in exchange for me analyzing what it's made of. He was hoping there might be iridium in it, but instead analysis by x-ray fluorescence spectroscopy at the Center for Microanalysis of Materials, University of Illinois (partially supported by the U.S. Department of Energy under grant DEFG02-91-ER45439) indicates that it's a strange mixture of primarily tungsten (62%) and zirconium (30%), with the remainder being iron and nickel. I looked around on the web and could find no references to tungsten-zirconium alloy, but that's no proof that such a thing isn't used in specialized applications. I would guess high temperature, corrosive environments, perhaps a chemical reaction chamber that operates at high pressures and temperatures. I would, however, be wrong, as was pointed out in an email from John Wechselberger: By the way, the tungsten alloy three-hole spanner threaded plug on your site is a weight plug for the Callaway Hawk Eye golf club. A chamber in the club head is filled with a measured weight of the aforementioned pellets, then closed with the plug, which is machine-driven with a three-pin spanner drive head. The Big Bertha plug is similar, but has larger diameter, smaller spanner holes spaced further apart, and the head contour comes up as a shallow cone, which then goes to a flat, rather than the blended contour of the Hawk Eye plug.

just to clarify its the 2003 true MARU SPEC 370cc driver that I have.... all PMs/emails replied to. Deal in the works
  4. totally tour proto one of a kind sheeet here. the .CH was going to be a retail release but Titleist Japan decided against it.
  5. Sopranos is huge over here - its one of my fav series actually. It may be an acquired taste, but at least it beats most of the drivel to come from the US in the last few years (read Friends, Will&Grace, et all) Scrubs, Boston Public and Fraiser - good quality! :!:

Just testing the waters now. I am looking for a tour driver, around 350cc ideally, with a deep face and low spin characteristics. Traditional shape and solid feel are a must! I am open to pretty much anything and have a Tour Tourstage MARU SPEC 8.5* handpicked for a square face, 8.75* loft, floed and spined Fujikura Speeder 652 Stiff at 44" D4 with Golf Pride Players Softie Cord Round +1/32" in 9.5/10 for trade (or straight up cash) Ideally it would be around 9* loft and come with a 70g Fuji Speeder but am open to anything really. Interested in: Nike Ignite Tour R500 983E Tour R7 TP / Tour 300 Tour Nike Old Tour Gold Serial Launcher 330 Tour etc etc. Let me know! Contact [email protected] and if you are not happy about shipping to Ireland I will have a friend pay you from the States and you can ship to him.
  9. Nope! Just "Tour" and "Retail" brackets and thats it.
  10. just dont put the dog s**t under my name! ;angel ;squarecycle

Thats actually pretty good - the R510 Deep Face fetched a lot more initially and the 3G figure quoted by some is way off! phew - maybe I can afford one in a short period.

Just an update (if anyone cares) The SS-03, MR-23 and 670s are firmly in the bag. My putter should be here next weekend (hopefully) and I am sending my wedges back to Ari. The ported wedges looked go great I am going to get it done to my 54* and have the 58* bent to 59* as well, for better yardage gaps. The driver is going to the States too. Shame on me for not wanting to hit a fade, but I think I am going back to my trust 983E.
  13. As much as I would tend to agree with DM I actually thing the MARU is not as impossible as most people make out. Mine flys just less than a degree lower than my 983E but that is to be expected on a/c of the lofts (9.5* and 8.5*) and I found it to be a few yards longer than the E on really pure hits. Forgivenss on a whole is not terrible, its a par with a 975J IMHO, but not like a 580XD say. The only thing that stops be loving this driver is the shape tendencies. I like to play a natural draw, and need to for the added length. This driver is very neutral and whilst its not impossible to hook, I had to really concentrate on my swing to get a controled draw. The X-390 I have not hit, but it looks nice.
  14. For me its the far left one by far! Looks perfect to my eye - the far right is awful and the middle is only so so. Newport 1 as opposed to Newport II guy am I :-P
  15. Thats a really nice gesture Ari - quality throughout the Scratch line up! I cant see the pics though :-(
  16. Ari Ari Ari - I am disappointed bud. What ever happened to the "I will never sell my MR-23s" EVER! lol. I guess the Scratch CB is treating you well. However buys is getting a set that has over $1500 invested in it (just ignore all those bad shots too :-P)
  17. LOL - it can be opened both ways I guess, but I assume Chris means bending open with a machine (ie reboring it) not the flip of the wrist ;-)
  18. I have mizuno MP-33s and hit the 690s extensively. I would actually put the 690s ahead of the -33s in terms of feel. Nothing huge, and I was only personal preference - but I thought the Zunos were too soft & just didnt really "feel" nice. I liked the more solid feeling 690s. My 670s on the other hand are much better. The nickel-copper underlay really changes the clubs feel, and even with the dulling feeling due to PX shafts, they are noticeably more lively. It is hard to put it into words but in terms of forging I would go with this: (from what I have played) Scratch Tourstage MR-23 670s with nickel copper 690s RAC Miura CBs MP-33s

SS is about 105 ish I guess. I am a swinger not a hitter, with a smooth tempo. Actually was "fitted" for X-100s and X-Flex Grafalloy Blue coz I am "strong" through the ball. But "S" suit me find. 869 Speeder - I love the heavy weight and kick through impact. Would really recommend this to anyone looking for a FW wood shaft and it prob suits just about everyone. 652 and 661 - nice shafts. I wanted something in the 65g range that would feel "smooth" and these do. But I would not be too enamored by them TBH.
  20. I am sending my 54* back to Ari to have it ported anyways. I think it will be just what I want to lengthen the distance gap between it, and the 58*

From top to bottom (descriptions) Just my entire set (still do not have my putter so I put a Anser in for the sake of completion) MARU at address. MR-23 2 iron and 670 3 iron at address (670 on right - topline is not that thick really) 670 on its own (3 iron) My set then from different angles. the Satin finish on the 670s is really nice, like the other pics of my wedges actually.

  23. I would love to see pics of these! I hae a satin set of 670s myself & would love to see how these compare.
  24. PxExG replied to PxExG's post in a topic in Japanese Golf Clubs
not by a long shot - the 670 topline is different, as is the toe shape. and the 690 long irons have a ton of offset. muscleback is lower on the 690s too so trajectory is a lot higher with 690s as opposed to 670. but other than that - exact same! lol pics are in another thread - not the best ones ever. I might be able to snap better ones this weekend.
