Primo's final rant of the year...
Lots of good responses here. Funny though how people can experience the same site and come away with a very different experience. For example, I have a little bit of money, but I never got the impression that this site catered to people with money. I also do not get the impression that there are not many junior golfers here, certainly there are less than at BSG (a lot less thank god), but the ratio is probably not that far off. The japanese aspect is a heavy influence, but not to the detriment of domestic offerings. If a group wanted to banter about domestic stuff enough to make it popular here, no one is going to stop them. But then why bother when the unofficial GaylorMade site is located at BSG. If anyone wants to call a golf forum a 'cult' then BSG is definitely it. For a site with a ton of members and posts, it is quite one dimensional and simple minded. I am not trying to knock that site, it is what it is. Do members here really want a site here as active as BSG??? Be careful what you wish for. Personally, I prefer a site that has less activity but a better overall quality of posts. It is cool that I can have a life and not hang here all day everyday and feel like I might miss something if I take a potty break. There are ways to get this site more active, but it takes a handful of members with no stake in the site to proactively create interest and maintain it. For example, I chose to do contests that were more creative and not centered around who gets to pick Tiger. I have no vested interest in the site other than to see it get better because I am member here, nothing more, nothing less. I could have chose to do the contests at BSG, but frankly I did not want to manage 1000 entries nor reward an administration that is quite unappreciative of dissenting views. One of these days I will dust off my 12 point plan to increase member activity and see if any TSGrs want to take it upon themselves to adopt an idea and run with it. But in the meantime, I like the peaceful, very knowledgeable membership here that does not waste a lot of time posting complete nonsense. It did not used to be that way when TSG started. When TSG started I likened you guys to the same clan that came over to the US on the Mayflower - a bunch of degenerate brits who were not welcome at home so you had to practically commit suicide coming over here. The BSG/Todd bashing was ridiculous. But after awhile, some maturity set in and the membership has realized its better to just concentrate on the positive and what this site does best, which is offer some great information. So a lot of progress has been made and CP should be thanked. (Now if I can just get him to calm down on the Gauge stuff...wink...wink...) It is a challenge to have a site that is japanese centric yet you do not have a lot of japanese members contributing mainly because this site is in english. It's a slow road, but it's moving along. But let's not forget, the Japan information is spectacular because most of the time you are seeing the new trends in golf before they hit the boring US market. For example, we all know Fourteen very well, but they have barely made a push on the PGA Tour and will very likely do that next year. So we are ahead of the curve. When it comes to good information, less is more; be proud of that. Personally, I can see how the forums get a little stale, even I go through slow periods. But it does not take a lot of members to sit down and think about what could they post about golf that they can be passionate about for a week or two and try to dominate the conversation. When you get 30-50 people doing that, you have a vibrant site. So to paraphrase JFK, I offer ask not what the site can do for you but what you can do for the site. Be creative, as long as it is about golf, it's welcomed here. Cheers. DM

Tourstage is driving me crazy
OK, my affair with other irons is over.....for now.....Went back to the MR-23s today and loving the irons. Still not going back to the woods though. I have resorted to a TM 510TP with the crummy 757. For FWs though, I am really liking the Sonartec NP99s with speeder 757 tour specs.

Double D
DD looked pretty good today carving out a smooth 67. He said in his interview to see him in 5 maybe 6 events the rest of the year....very cool.

Double D
Congrats to David Duval making the cut on the number. Looks like he is not toast. The new swing is not too bad looking either. No doubles or worse on the card the last two days. Not bad, not bad at all.....

I found it out accidentally!
I found an easier way to quiet down the R7, it's called switch back to the 510DF. :surprize:

Tourstage is driving me crazy
Ha-ha. I don't need an excuse to be a club ho. I just think as my swing is starting to get better and more compact, the lite/loose shafts of my TS irons are not helping. This whole disaster started because it has been a very windy summer and I am hitting a lot more punch shots. I had my 3 and 4 iron pretty well dialed in until I took a break for two weeks, then I went back to the MR-23s and my eyes were telling me, wow those things are tiny. Still, nothing beats a purely struck ball by a MR-23. As far as the R7 goes, it's really a stupid gimmick. The weights offer so many ridiculous combinations it is almost impossible to get it dialed in when you start factoring in shafts. And on top of all that, when you look at some of the TM recommendations they are suggesting changing the swingweight by 2 or 3 points in some instances to change ballflight. I really do not believe in this theory. I this the R7 best in the neutral base setup of 10's and 2's. Let's say with the Fuji that I have it at D-2. If I am comfortable with D-2, then why would I follow TMs recommendation for a high draw that ends up with D-4? Then the club starts to feel horrible...downright unplayable. I am talking about the TP. The regulat R-7 is actually better than the TP because it limits you to two weight sizes and no need to start worrying about messing up the swing weight. I may have to give that club another look. Still, the 510DF is the best driver TM ever made, it has the right ball flight, the right headweight, the right size, forgiveness, etc.....

Srixon Irons
Look for Srixon to make a bigger push next year on the tour. They are ready to take on and pass by tourstage/precept.

Tourstage is driving me crazy
I made the mistake of playing some Mizuno irons for a couple of rounds just to goof around. Now I cannot hit my MR-23s. I never realized how small those damn irons were until I gave them up for a week. And they are too light! Looks like I may have to get rid of my TS irons and woods. It got so bad that I even went out to buy a set of Titleist 704s just as a backup set. I played those for the last two rounds and those are some really good irons. It also does not help that my quest for an all Shigeki bag was ruined when TS made the worse driver ever. And what do they have to make up for that? Nothing. All the TS drivers are weak. I thought my club ho days were pretty much over. I need to get rid of my R7s and finally admit the 510 DF is much better for me. Rough week of golf......

Golf Classic Mag - Japanese Amateur ???
It's out, I was just looking through it while in SoCal a couple of days ago.
-
Whats your R7 setting?
I have the standard setup - 2's in front and 10's in back. Shaft is Fuji TourSpec 693TR. I may switch to the draw setup in awhile, but for now I am keeping the setup neutral while I fine tune my swing.

R7
DM, Where is your store located? I live in the LA area. Thanks In my garage....LOL...I don't have a store, but awhile ago I had so many clubs it did look like a store.

Miura 5002 vs. MR-23 Blade
The 5002s are very similar on profile to the MR23s. The offset is very close, the size is very close. It's the shape of the muscle on the back where you can find the biggest difference. I think the 5002 has a little more bulk in the muscle to get a higher ball flight.

R7
You can indoor demo them at any golf superstore. Or if you actually want to test one out on the course, you can come by my place. 14-6-2-2 starting from heel weight port is a mid draw, that's 14g on the heel, 6g on the back heel side, 2g on the back toe side, 2g on the toe. If you did the reverse, you get mid fade. You are also maintaining the R7's original swingweight with that setup.

could this be #1 pretty club!
Those do look great, what model are they?

FS:2004 Maru Spec Limited Edition Wedges
Tempting to get a 2nd set. Someone get these before I do. I got used to the light swingweight, but they are easy to make heavy with a re-shaft and lead weight. These are the most awesome wedges out there. Grooves are the perfect blend. You can come down hard on the ball for great spin, play it up with drop and stop, or let it run out. So easy. I do not mean to be such a homer for someone else's sale, but I feel really strong about these wedges. $200 each is well worth it.

Tourstage Prototype Driver!!
That's fresh looking. Looks deep. Make sure you stamp the sole "PROTOTYPE" before listing that puppy on Ebay! just kidding.

TM 510 TP VS TM R7 TP
The R7 is not necessarily longer than the 510 and both of them are not necessarily as long as the 300 Tour. But the TM drivers seem to be more forgiving over time. I have found the R7 to be more accurate than the 510. And I have also watched "agoodgolfer" repeatedly hit his 300 Tour farther than any other driver he has tried. As mentioned earlier, get the right shaft and specs for your swing to maximize distance.

R7 weight configurations
I like to experiment just as much as the next person, but that is one configuration that I would not bother trying on my R7 TP. You are talking about adding 8 swingweight points! Great way to kill a driver....or a duck.

Identify this iron!!!
Agree, look like the ones on EBay.

British Open Contest is ON!!!!
See General Golf and pay attention to the rules. Good Luck. DM

Many Tour Issue X-Cb's ( not forged by Endo ) ....SLOW LOAD!
I finally saw the X-Blade CBs....sweeeeeet. I can't wait to track down my first slightly used set for a low price. I just missed one on EBay a few days ago. The new set here is $1000, more than I want to spend to try irons for a few rounds.

r7 .... Emporer's new clothes?
Just reiterating I hear what you are saying haribo. Is it the specs of the regular R7 (larger tip, closed face) turning you away from that option or have you already hit it? I would recommend anyone to rent a R7 from Ebay. It is worth the $20-50 to try it out. Ocatvio Dotel just blew his 1st save in an A's uniform :-)

Miura's new Miuraism line
Let me know when the unstamped protos are available. Yes, key chain is cool, so is the divot tool.

r7 .... Emporer's new clothes?
I really don't agree. While TM is doing a lot of marketing based on psychology to fuel sales, the bottom line is you need to have big bucks in the R&D department to back it up. The R7 is not an easily engineered product. Not many other OEMs can pull this off. And the technology is legitimate, not simply an answer for people who love to tinker. If that was the case, the R7 would be a failure because more times than not, once you get the weights dialed it, the tinkering is over. If I thought the weights did not work, I would still be hitting the 510 DF because like you said, it is not a distance issue. But it is a dispersion issue and the R7 dispersion is much tighter than the 510 DF. It has made a big difference to me. Just as an example, I have yet to lose a ball off the tee with the R7 with some wild right drive. With the 510 DF I could count on one of those every round or two. With the R7 I am getting the ball to turn over half the time, with the 510, rarely, it was always setup down the right side and get the fade to the middle. Once I setup the weights to where I want them, I have not changed them, and have no desire to change them. Even on a windy day, I am not going to change the weights for lower ball flight, I will just tee it a little lower. I can see a lot of what you are saying and agree with some of it, but calling it the emporer's new clothes is too much exaggeration.
