IMPORTANT - RYOMA MAXIMA PRE-ORDER INSTUCTIONS
gocchin replied to gocchin's topic in Japanese Golf Clubs
As Eric said its not just cosmetic. The face angle is also different plus having three different models makes it easier for golfers to differentiate ie the square face heavier shafted V is black and aimed at the better player, the G is the premium longer shaft model (and it is more expensive because the shaft is high modulus carbon) and the it is GOLD IP which is more expensive. If there was only one model, a lot of people would actually have a harder time choosing, Now, all the players who want the square face automatically ask for the V. -
IMPORTANT - RYOMA MAXIMA PRE-ORDER INSTUCTIONS

Yes they needed to remove the extra weight to have it work at 46.5" however, other than that they are exactly the same head. This is Ryoma's own explanation. Same feel, same design, same distance. I can tell you the base of each head and they you can figure out what weight they use: D: 186g G: 184g (there is that 2g less) V: 187g -
Thank you all for your patience in waiting for the release of the new Ryoma Maxima at TSG. Ryoma has told us they would like us to begin taking orders this Tuesday (America Time) for the next June batch of Maxima. I was in the midst of calculating the pricing now so to all those who have messaged me I apologize if I have not gotten back to you. On Tuesday I will have my blog listing up explaining the new technologies of the Maxima as well as its differences from the D-1. Regardless of this post I know many of you want the Maxima no matter what (and I do have to say you are right for wanting it), so this post is to facilitate a smoother pre order (truthfully its just to make things easier and more organized for myself (^_^)). ALL ORDERS MUST SENT STARTING TUESDAY AND BE DONE BY EMAIL TO: [email protected] It is much easier for me to organize and track my emails no matter where I am vs PM's. THE SUBJECT OF THE EMAIL MUST READ : RYOMA MAXIMA PREORDER YOU MUST HAVE A PRO SHOP ACCOUNT SO I CAN SET UP THE ORDER, IF NOT REGISTER FOR ONE BEFORE YOU EMAIL ME. I WILL NEED YOUR PAYPAL EMAIL TO SEND A PAYPAL INVOICE. IF YOU WANT TO PAY BY CREDIT CARD I WILL NEED THE DETAILS AS WE DO NOT KEEP CARDS ON FILE. In your email please tell me which model you want ie Type D, Type G or Type V. Lofts available and stock shaft flexes available with those lofts; Type D: 9.5 (6 Stiff, 5 Stiff) 10.5 (5 Stiff, SR, R) 11.5 (R, R2) 45.25" Type G: 9.5 (S) 105 (SR, R) 11.5 (R2) 46.5" Type V: 8.5 9.5 (65S, 55SR) 10.5 (65S, 55SR, 55R) - 8.5* is a special order with stock shaft If you want heads only : Head weight Range: 190g to 200g If you want a custom shaft ie Crazy, Tour AD etc, please note which head and what shaft and grip as well as finished length and desired swing weight. This is a must so I can calculate the head weight I need to build the club. Now to explain the differences between the three models. Unlike the D-1 where the Premia had a different face material, the D G and V all have the same material this time around. The design of each head is EXACTLY the same. According to Ryoma, the feel and forgiveness and distance should be identical however in its stock shafted form the differences are in shafts, finished length and face angles and head finish. Type D: Mirror Chrome, Crystal Black Crown - 9.5* 0.5* Closed, 10.5 11.5* 1.0* Closed Type G: Gold IP, Crystal Black Crown - 9.5* 0.5* Closed, 10.5 11.5* 1.0* Closed Type V: Black IP, Crystal Black Crown - All lofts feature square face angles All three models are priced differently due to the different finishes. Please note while exchange rate is obviously a factor, at the end of the day the price is controlled by the manufacturer in this case Ryoma. Type D: 1065.00 Stock Shaft, 865.00 Head Only Type G: 1245.00 Stock Shaft, 1045.00 Head Only Type V: 1095.00 Stock Shaft, 895.00 Head Only Please note all custom orders will be quoted when you email me. As for the weight kit, I have received more detailed info on the weight kits. The reason why the new Maxima is adjustable is to avoid hot melting/foaming/gelling of the head to increase weight and dull the feel of the head. The Maxima is very hot feeling at impact and they want to keep it this way, because of this they made the back weight adjustable to compensate for the need for heavier weight. Because of this they are offering weight kits at about 50.00 per kit, but to be honest with you I don't find the way they created the kits to be very useful unless for a club maker fine tuning for swing weight, and especially at that price. They offer 3 Types of weight kits all with a wrench, LIGHT (3g 4g 5g 6g), MIDDLE (7g 8g 9g 10g), HEAVY (11g 12g 13g 14g) As you can see if you get one of the weight kits it doesn't allow for much adjustment (especially say if you already order the 200g head which comes with a 13g weight installed) unless you go for weights that are completely different range from what is already in the head. What this does is for those who do want to gel or foam the head, they can conceivably reach weights closer to 207 208 grams or more using both gel/foam and the weights. If you need a weight kit let me know, if not you can always order one later. I have already tested this driver for nearly a week every day and will go for yet another round with it tomorrow. You will hear most of my findings in my blog post but I can say now. This is it. Please pre order to avoid disappointment. Nobody, myself included likes waiting and Ryoma has had a history of making people wait so be sure to minimize that wait time by getting your order in.

Well as with yourself and all the members here you will be welcome to contact me directly for your price. While we may be instructed to "list" full price on our site, that does not mean thats what we sell it for, especially to our loyal customers. (^_^) -
Finally the time has come... Ryoma Maxima @ TSG
gocchin replied to gocchin's topic in Japanese Golf Clubs
The drivers will be available as stock shafted, head only and custom shafted. They will be up after the weekend. Pricing is not always in line with Japan, Ryoma is one of those companies who dictate a different price for the international market vs the Japan market. It will definitely be less than the original Ryoma which is good considering its a better driver all around! -
The Ichi surprised me as well, better than Iomic and better than standard Nowons. Very tacky and very good grip. Now that you say the boron is easiest to launch that is more inline with what I had said, the boron is one of Crazy's easy launching shafts. I had originally thought it would go to high for you but it worked out well!

Older model already sold out... they have their current GT Pro Forged muscle back but even there are down to the last 20 sets.
-
Very close to the naked eye but I think it may actually be a tad less. Higher CG than the 302, thicker sweet spot and satin finish vs chrome in the 302 for other differences.
-
We can certainly get it. I don't think its cheap though? Size and color so I can check stock?

All the photos are coming... working on the blog post! -
R, it's not new, this model was released last year and was designed by Kobayashi-san while he was still at Endo. It's the current smaller CB in their lineup.

One of the cooler things with this new model is the back weight is now adjustable. We will be offering the weight kit which includes a wrench and weights. This will allow changing of the trajectory (height wise) and weight of the head. -

K, Ryoma's pair quite well with Crazy shafts and more than 80% of all Ryomas we sold were custom jobs with Crazy. Of course its more about whehter the CB46 6.7 works for you. I think quite a few people have had success with this combo at least in the older model. Initial testing will be with the stock shafts because a lot of people will buy with the stock shaft (about 40%) and then we'll experiment with shafts afterwards. jimmieboi has already discovered that the Crazy Boron is a good fit for his Type v -

Yes was very happy when Ryoma called yesterday and said they were shipping me demos and began working with me on the schedule. Will be a very exciting year for all Ryoma owners and Ryoma to be owners! -
When: Tomorrow Sunday Where: Sakura World Golf Why: Testing of the new Ryoma Maxima along with the Ryoma D-1 and Premia as well as some hot competitors Ryoma has finally given us a date for when we will start moving Ryoma Maximas. We are officially going to begin shipping Maxima's in June as part of Ryoma's 3rd batch of Maximas. The reason for the delay was to iron out production glitches (I won't go so far as say issues) as you may have seen a few isolated heads in the first batch had some problems with the rear weight section. Ryoma knows how wide a reach and how large our customer base is so they pushed us back to make sure everything was clear quality wise as well as having the domestic market and some of their Asia accounts were taken care of. Not that anyone has to worry anyway since anything purchased through TSG is 100% guaranteed and warrantied - Ryoma has always covered all after sales service with no issues. I'll be hitting the D-1 Maxima Type D as well as the S-Yard XV with Fujikura Rombax Type X R, and T.388 with NS Pro Regio Formula 55 R. I also have my original D-1 and Crazy LY01 as well as a Premia to compare. The Type V is for Chris and he will have it in the next few days for testing... though I will probably have a few hits with it tomorrow (9.5* stock 65 Stiff shaft). Very excited. I will be posting details on the pre order in the next few days which will most likely begin next week. I will also be making a blog post explaining all the features of the 3 new models and comparing them to the original D-1. This year all 3 models are available as heads only or stock shafted, or custom made with any JDM shaft from TSG. Stay tuned!

A Generational Clash and a Couple of Reminders : Long
gocchin replied to wmclarenf1's topic in Japanese Golf Clubs
The 460ZR is considered one of the legendary heads on TSG. I must have owned at least 4 and Chris probably like 10. Blader-X, and many of the original members all had this head. I wish I still did! -
Don't forget Duffer swings compared to Supo, Craig, Chiro etc. A lower launching, lower spin driver will benefit them more than it will you. This is also why I game the XV and not the T.388 because I am not a fast swinger. Though i of course keep the T.388 here too as i love its feel , looks and ability to be straight. Arthur I am not even sure what your swing speed is or distance but i think you were playing Crazy 6.7? Teeing 50% above the crown is still too high. Needs to be low and as I said many times a level blow. The target audience of this driver is NOT single digit players though obviously with the smaller head better players will excel with it. We have had 15 handicap players get it and succeed with it. But as you all know every player is different.

Question for Mr. Kobayashi on his driver designs
gocchin replied to ant's topic in Japanese Golf Clubs
Anton, I hear you. Truthfully we can pretty much question the design thinking of every and any club out there today, but at the end of the day its how it performs on the course. The truth is the T.388 and now even the XV have performed much more admirably than I would have imagined especially on the forgiveness side. Have you considered giving one of them a whirl? Email me and we can talk about it. -

Question for Mr. Kobayashi on his driver designs
gocchin replied to ant's topic in Japanese Golf Clubs
I am meeting with Kobayashi-san next week but honestly I doubt we will get much of an answer to this at least when it comes to numbers. Yes he picked a stock shaft for each head but even with the stock shaft, droop will vary from player to player depending on swing speed and swing style (just as you said yourself) so its impossible to pick a number. Plus, he considers that shafts besides the stock shafts will be used as upgrades and again, droop will vary among all the shafts times all the different players that use them. Finally as I noted, he already said its the best spec for his design and in the case of the XV a broader market product that reaches many different players. I don't think shaft droop is his main concern when choosing a shaft or testing it with the head but rather that the shaft profile, torque, and feel match the head and its intended performance for a wide audience. However as I mentioned he did mention that 60* was indeed to counter the shaft droop based on a 45.25" spec (he has actually told me that compared to the "old" days, shafts are considerably more flexible which is probably something he considered then. Pros go for flatter lies because there is less droop with their shorter lengths and they are very good at swinging inside out vs recreational golfers. As I said, none of you have said anything that is wrong and in fact all the info is very useful and valid. But in the end we are reading into a technical spec that is most likely being generalized for the wide market not just by S-Yard but all mainstream manufacturers today. And that probably is what it is. But I guess I will try and ask him anyway (^_^) Everybody's technical input is very sound and the droop and upright lie angle and how it affects the face angles make sense. So do the points about pros wanting flatter lies. The bottom line is if all the great club designers in the world for all the top brands thought that a 56* lie angle (or less) was the way to go, why don't they do it? Because 60* unfortunately works for the masses. Again with manufacturers keeping in mind that lower lofts equal less direction lost and drivers have the lowest lofts of any club. -
The stand out shaft for the stronger player is the Crazy Black Tour. The RoyDeco's are still more specialized being ultra lightweights. Snapped a shot last week. I should also note that the Crazy Mofo TSG Limited Graphics are now available on any Crazy shaft model as well.
-
Please keep in mind this is not actually the Rombax Type X in the XV but something similar. We are also not talking about the much older Rombax X, but the brand new Vectran Rombax Type X.

I did not love the original's feel. Firm and very high launch. How heavy do you need? You would be better off building a hi COR Kamui Ray. They make it from scratch to any weight you want. Better feel and distance and quality than the Impact. Some posts I have made on the Ray: http://www.golftoimpress.com/hear-the-thunder-the-new-kamui-works-ray-driver/ http://www.golftoimpress.com/kamui-works-ray-driver-install-part-1/ http://www.golftoimpress.com/kamui-works-ray-driver-install-part-2/ http://www.golftoimpress.com/kamui-works-ray-driver-ryoma-d-1-comparison/ http://www.golftoimpress.com/kamui-456-vs-kamui-ray-head-to-head-robot-testing/ The Ryoma is of course one of the most forgiving drivers anywhere but it will not be a heavy head maxing out around 200g
