The Z101's vs the Hogan Apex Plus's
Art, thanks for validating what I remembered about the Plus'. I think you're right-on. Jerry and all, I hope you understand that that this in no way deminishes my thoughts/persception of the overall quality/playability of the z101...it's just that the Plus are also very good clubs as well. We definitely give the nod to Tourstage but I would not hesitate to put the Plus back in the bag.

The Z101's vs the Hogan Apex Plus's
Are they that similar?, I used to use the Apex Plus irons, I loved those but like many ho's we have to switch. I've been thinking about this for a couple of days. The Hogan's probably hit a little lower--hard to remember though, and my swing has changed since I've played the Plus. Also, I think the z101 feel a little more crisp and spin the ball better, i.e. hold the greens. Jerry may be able to soon correct my memory....Regardless, we're talking subtle differences.

Marketing survey question?
I'm sure you're right, Jim. How are things?

Marketing survey question?
I'm thinking of replacing my 3 & 4 (z101) irons, maybe 5 iron as well, with TS202s. Is there any interest in the z101s (3, 4, and 5) that are being replaced? Cost negotiabale!

You have two sets that are very similar in purpose. That's the TS201's and the X CB's. The Z's are also very similar but touted as more of a players CB. The TS201, TS202's and XCB's are connected through lineage of a line really. Each one replace the other. I think the XCB's would be the way to go with this because they are the newest. The Z's are being discontinued. In fact, they are very difficult to find right now and are becoming classics. Go with the latest and the greatest and that is the X CB's, IMHO. Keep in mind the X CBs will be about double the price of the others. FAQ, how do you compare the 201s and 202s? I've read that the 201s don't feel quite as good. Drivers info is very good. I've never hit the 201's. 202's are the way to go if you want ultimate forgiveness. the XCB's are expensive, but I think they are worth it and easy to hit. Just not as easy as the 202's. The ulitmate iron set would be: 3-5 - TS202, 6-8 MR23 US Spec, and 7-PW MR23 US Blade. Second choice would be 3-5 TS202 & 6-PW z101. Third choice: 3-5 XCB & 6-PW X-Blade.

Please help me choose a Tourstage iron set
I guess they can be classified as a additions to the design line--the progressive, sharpe angle cavity with tungsten insert design--but I wouldn't go so far as to say they are a "compromise" between the two. The z101 are really small in comparison to the TS202. I actually think they even appear smaller than the MR23s. They certainly have less offset and bounce that the 23s. No, I think we should say that the z101 stand on their own. I actually read your question wrong...the 201s would fit right in between the MR23/z101 and TS202 in terms of offset, size, and playability/forgiveness intent. They are not as sweet feeling, nor quite as forgiving as the TS202s...nor do they match the accuracy of the 23s or 101s. They're actually kind of Class-B. Not because of the forging process or metal used but more because of the cavity design. I think I like the MX20s better.

Actually the TS201 & XCB follows X5000 lineage. The MX20 would probably be more like these than anything, except Mizuno feel like Mizuno and Tourstage feels like Tourstage. I definitely give the nod to Tourstage in terms of feel...your experience with their playability will differ from my because we swing differently but I found the Tourstage more forgiving as well--Imagine that!!! The TS202, game enhancements irons, are of the MR23 line in terms of looks, shape and feel. Even some of the better players around here and elsewhere find the TS202s among the best irons available. It's just a matter of your preference to play slightly larger irons with more offset vs. player type CBs like z101 or MR23s. If we all followed the advise of the wise who suggests that uless you are a very good, consistent ball striker then game enhancement clubs like the TS202 are the way to go.

The Z101's vs the Hogan Apex Plus's
Jerry, I sent you a PM. In short...I'm sometimes confused that I'm hitting the Plus when I'm hitting the z101s. :?

Prefered Scratch finish
Glad you like it. I'm down to 2 drivers: RX-1 Type315 and J340.... Note: my ho'ing days are nearing end. I'm just contemplating my 3-iron to 5-wood spot and maybe my putter. After this, I'm set....No changes for a very, very, very long time--for the sake of consistency. Yeah right... :P Agree :P  ...No, really!

Dodge, I was playing a J340 before I got the Maru in Oct. Since then I moved the Maru along and got another j340. That was the best decision I ever made was to go back. I just hit the J340 so much better. I have a Fuji 652 coming this week. Right now I only have a YS-6 in it. If the Fuji doesn't work then I'm going to pull my CP02 from another Tourstage I have and put it in the J340.

z101 or ts201
Easier to hit?...it's all relative. The TS201s are a little smaller and have a little less offset than the TS202. Still they are forgiving and quite easy to hit. Some say they don't have quite the feel as other Tourstage offerings though. The TS202, having modest offset and being a little larger, are very easy to hit and are quite forgiving. They also are very responsive and feel great....And if you also consider their overall appearance I think they are the better choice. Often I feel I'd like more forgiving irons...if I do decide to go that way I will get the TS202s.

Patrick, I'm thinking of going satin as well. The Antique is (very) nice but satin suits my eye a little more. The thing is, I know that as soon as I'd have them refinished then I'd miss the Antique. Such is life....
