303 stainless or forged for softer feel?

Landshark,

In all honesty, there are very few players who can tell the difference. Even if the club sare set up exactly the same - same specs, shafts, grips, etc. - if a player didn't know wheich was which, he wouldn't be able to tell. Blind tests with pros have proven this to be true.

While I am sure many players claim they can tell the difference, in many cases, it is club design or shaft they are feeling and not head material. From a playability difference, the material makes no difference whatsoever.

IMO cast has become a lot better & fast, the Fourteen TB1000 Irons are a special casting that feels soft that could be on the cusp of a new trend.

I personally can tell the feeling difference especially Callaway vs Tourstage Irons in Feel even with the same shaft + grip.

I also think that any carbon forged steel like 1018 - 1025 etc will feel softer that 303, even 303 with milling marks.

IMO many of us can feel the difference, take a forged head and cast head un shafted and bounce balls off the face, at a small level you can feel the difference too. Same goes with milling marks vs no milling marks.

first off, Forged is not a material its a process . Secondly there are some new stainless material that are every bit as soft as carbon steel, some even softer according to the rockwall hardness scale. I personally use and recommend Infiniti Irons Made form JS-217 Stainless then annealed in a vaccum to align the molecular structure to the tightness of a carbon steel. They feel as soft as any forging I've played to date and softer than some of the coin forgings offered by the OEM's. In fact we had an Infiniti builder actually build a set for a handicapped person in a wheelchair and bent these Irons over 12 degrees.

and if you play golf,

you're my friend
