This is a tip from Jack Nicklaus that I read in a Golf Magazine or Golf Digest article...

At address, he said the buttons on your shirt should be lined up with the ball. He continued, saying that at impact, he tried to have the shirt buttons pointing well to the right of the golf ball. This will keep you from moving your head forward and also keep you from spinning out or coming out of the shot. I have really liked this drill.

Only bad thing is that a lot of golf shirts don't have a collar or buttons anymore so if you're wearing a shirt like TW with the mock neck, you're kind of screwed.

What I have done to remain behind the ball is to place the logo of the ball facing backward opposite of the target.

I place it high enough to I can only see it if I remain behind the ball.

This gets me in to the reverse "C" position to see the logo when I swing at the ball.

For an Idea, veiw the image to the far right, ignore the comments.

This gives a good idea of where his head is before ball contact.

Use a broken shaft or some type of re-rod or a broken broom stick and stick it the ground vertically along your right hip at set up, This will keep you from sliding and to make a better turn with your upper body. It keeps your lower body out of the swing so much. If you bump into the shaft your going to slide on your left side as well ! Good Luck !! And keep the lower body quieter ! :smile1:

You mention that you are trying to stay behind the ball at impact... I wonder more importantly where your hands (wrists) are on the downswing. You say you are hitting low shots, if you're right handed I bet you are hitting draws. Anyway, I bet you not only slide with the lower body but you are also casting with your wrists from the top. If your lower body loses it's place and tension (slide), the upper body must release too. I fought (we all did at one point) the downhill slide. My pro looked at my loss of wrist cock on the way down, we worked on it/ focused on that and presto magico, the slide was lessened by 95%. Focusing on downswing (the first move) wrist cock 'tightened' me up. Also: Pretend there is a knife pointing at your leading hip, let it unwind, not slide OR: stare at Retief Gossen in Golf Digest for 8 hours a day.

I like the tip from an earlier post, lift your left heel off the ground and make three quarter swings. This will help promote the sensation of staying behind the ball. Also, try initiating the downswing by swinging your arms down first and keeping your back facing the target for as long as possible. You'll hit some fat shots, but keep working on it.

I gave it more thought. Assuming you are a right handed golfer, on the downswing, your right shoulder must be passive. See how low (without dipping or stooping/getting out of your spine angle)...see how low you can get your right shoulder to the ground as the clun head approcahes impact.

A passive right shoulder is key to allowing your arms to work properly. Most people cannot do this. Some can keep their lag on the way down, but most cast at some point on the way down, have nothing left, and yank.

If you try the right shoulder drill, you'll find you will have a feeling/sense of being behind the ball at impact. That is my two cents and very sound advice.

You cannot be doing this, impossible, according to your description of your problem.
