desperado
Hi, I'm new here and have a basic question... Can someone give me a rundown on the differences bwtween these 3 driver heads - size, relative launch conditions (angle, spin, etc.), forgiveness, etc. Thanks in advance. sam2011
510 TP is 390cc, has a deep face, and launches it a little lower than the other two. 540XD is 400cc, has a slightly more shallow face and a wider body, and tends to launch it higher because of that. 580XD is 460cc, and if you could think of a cross between the two previous, then this is it. it has a deep face and a wider body and has a mid trajectory launch. in my opinion, the 510 is a little easier to work off the tee and feels the best when you hit it dead on. if youre looking to get the ball in the air more, then the 540 might be the best for you, and the 580 might offer a tad more forgiveness on off center hits, because the face is bigger. something else youre going to want to consider is the shafts, but thats a whole other ballgame... good luck! jimmyjames
I thought the 580xd was 440cc's? I don't think TM has ever made a 460 cc driver.
kpcw
Indeed the 580XD is 440CC other than that, the above description is very true. Are you a good player with a consistent swing? Then you can pull off the R510. The R510TP is sweet, reminds me of the Titleist 983E. Pretty to look at and even better ball flight. Some people love the heck out of it. I believe it comes with a pretty heavy Speeder shaft and is not the easiest club (imo). The R540 is more shallow, wider. The 580XD is on super sale around the world (for $200.00). I've hit it and I liked it. At that price it's tough not to consider one. Look at Taylor Made's website under Vintage Clubs here: http://www.taylormadegolf.com/global/servi...intSpecs_04.asp Look at the shafts etc. Unfortunately TM does not offer whether a driver is square, open or closed. Go to a local store and beat the heck out of them. Perhaps the R580XD is the ticket. Good luck.
kpcw
460cc TM? Yes. While the American R5 Dual sits at 450cc, the Japanese version is 460cc.
