3x black finish on scotty's

Recommended Posts

I have seen a a lot of studio stainless newports and a few red x's recently on ebay that have the 3x finish aplied aftermarket. I really like this, especially since it reduces glare on the studio and I was wondering if anone knows where to get this done. The sellers ahve said that they are using the same place that used to do it for scotty, but won't say the name. I was wondering if anyone knew

If blackoxideservice.com is indeed the company doing the 3XB work, then I highly recommend them. I purchased a 3XB Red X off Ebay and have been very impressed by the quality of the finishing. Compared to my Tour Del Mar 3.5 3XB, the finish on my Red X is much nicer! Seems very durable and the colour is truly black whereas the finish on my Tour Scotty is slightly chocolatey (if that's a word).

Fyi, this is the putter I purchased;

I absolutely love it.

You can also look for a machine shop in your area. Some places do this for tools and other metal parts.

Here are some pics of my Red X that I had done.

Black Oxide on Stainless is not as durable as any plating- In time with any kind of Nornal use , it will wear. If you recall 20 years ago Ping had the "Black Satin" series- this was Black Oxide on stainless.

I have made many with this finish on stainless- and it can be inconsistant as far as wear. Thanks geo
