vokester
i was wondering what 3w tiger played at doral last week. looked like a smaller version of his driver but i couldnt see it that well on tv.
poekie
It was indeed a nike 3 wood. A special tweaked tour version of the T60 or whatever fairway wood Nike made for Tiger!
Olly123
so is he not going to use the 970 ever again? or is he just testing the nike? they must have paid him big $$$ to change.
poekie
I think they pay him already enough to let him play Nike's!

I think after hitting those 2 shots into #12 if it was a test... it passed! Doubt that club is coming out of his bag for a long time
mossy
I think the 290 yard three-wood to the green for eagle this weekend will end any "testing". That club stays I would say.
golfernut78
any ideas of the shaft in it? i've rumblings it was graphite, but i watched when he played 12, and i could see steps in it and would assume he is play steel, tt x100. anyone know? hornyjuan
Man the TITTY 970 was sooo money though.
vokester
i liked the titleist too. but, i would imagine that the nike is almost an exact replica of the titleist. kinda like his nikes are just like his titleists, which bear a striking resemblance to his mizunos. nunee
Heard an interesting tid bit this weekend from the local golf shop owner....Tiger switched due to the size of the club. Purely speculation, but it makes sense. After going from a 300cc or 340cc driver to a 410cc and then the 460cc, can you imagine hitting the 970. The Driver to 3 wood transition from a 460cc Ignite to the 970 3 wood would be visually difficult, to say the least. IT would make sense that Tiger's switch was due to visual perception from his new Super Sized Driver. JAT.

Rodfern
Also noteworthy is that the new 3wd has a graphite shaft. The old one was steel. Probably contributed to the bump in distance. Since he uses Mitsu Diamana, my guess is the 3wd also has a Mitsu shaft.

I kinda agree, the 970 is small and not the easiest club to hit, feels good, nice low trajectory but still nothing i would consider easy to use due to its size. It wasn't due to head size, it was due to weight. He wasn't able to adjust from steel in the 970 to graphite in the Ignite and I guess he didn't like the feel of graphite in the 970. At least, that is what he allegedly said in his intervoew
GCrump
Tiger does indeed have a Mitsubishi Diamana shaft in his 3 wood. He is playing a 103 gram version, X flex.
