Posted June 17, 200519 yr comment_97610 Hey guys My dad has a good friend who owns a buisness called steel forgings inc. and he told me tonight that he has a CNC machine and i could design any putter i wanted and he could build it ... anything. So i was wondering what you guys thought if he was to launch this on the internet ... would you buy them??? and if so how much would you pay?? just curious ... Ooo and one more thing, if anyone has an idea on what kind of putter i should design chime in let me know, maybe even shoot me an e-mail with your design, ill post pics when i get it. thanks for your help and your opinions Zach
June 17, 200519 yr comment_97611 Have him mill a Newport 2 style! Take pics when he gets it done and post them. I would be willing to be a couple guys would pick one up if the price is right.
June 17, 200519 yr comment_97619 Just because he has a CNC machine doesn't mean you can produce a quality putter. I have seen putters that non putter makers make with CNC machines and I just don't know if I would consider them putters. Its much harder than you think.
June 17, 200519 yr Author comment_97621 but he is an avid golfer himself and has already made several putters dating from a few years back ... even a round one that he thought about marketing for truer roll ... he makes fittings for pipeline all over the world with these machines and he said that building a putter that he himself will take on the course and play with was the hardest thing he has ever done ... but he now has his own custom putter in his bag and i really like it ... i just borught this up tonight because we went to his house for dinner and he told me he could do this .. thanks for the input though chris

If I could choose any shape I would select one just like this except with milling marks:

June 17, 200519 yr comment_97633 You can make just about anything on a good CNC, the problems are the following. Drawing out what you want to make (that is the biggest problem) I have had 4-5 people hand me a sketch or a head and say make this. It could take 100 hours to cad it out! And then 200 hours to test it out and program unless you have an entire CAD/CAM, design, engineer, and machinist team to use. The machine must be top notch or you really need to know what you are doing. Someone that makes pipeline fittings "probably" is not using 5 axis or top notch 4 axis machines. I'm going to take some pictures of the putter I made for myself Its 316 ss with a copper insert, worked ok. Matt
June 17, 200519 yr Author comment_97641 Wow that gauge putter is awesome ... what kind is that ... i think i want to make that exact one blue paintfill and all that thing is absolutely gorgeous :surprize:
June 17, 200519 yr comment_97656 If this guy isnt a puter maker I seriously doubt the putter will come out as solid as you expect, even if he does golf or has built putters in the past. Id like to see pics.
June 19, 200519 yr comment_97728 SOUNDS COOL I MADE CLAY PUTTER HEADS WHEN I WAS YOUNGER AND MADE SOME PRETTY COOL DESIGNS HOPE ONEDAY I COULD MAKE THEM OUT OF STEEL.
