What are keys for maintaining a solid position at the top of the backswing? It appears as if I could do chin-ups on Adam Scott's shaft at the top of his swing (along with Tiger). However, when I watch Davis Love III I do notice that he appears more "loose". Is this the result of flexibility, grip pressure, transition of weight,....?

Looking at my swing, I believe I'm not as solid at the top as I would like.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Also, why does Tiger point his right forearm almost directly down at the ground at the top of his backswing? Most other top players allow their right forearm to match their spine angle. In order for me to get into Tiger's position at the top of my backswing, I have to lay the club well off the target line and bend my right wrist back so my right hand faces the sky. What gives? :fever:

If I had my elbow pointing down I would need medical attention after a round. :)

Great question though. Sadly, I'm not sophisticated enough to provide an answer.

ACG,

That's a great link. Thanks for the info.

I'm pretty flexible, as I'm only 26 (not as flexible or strong as Tiger), but I let my right forearm match my spine angle at the top of my backswing. I can't see the benefit of pointing the right elbow straight at the ground like Tiger unless you want to dislocate your elbow. I'm not advocating a flying elbow, just somewhere in between the two extremes.

Thanks for the link to Tiger's swing.

getting the right elbow vertical is something butch ingrained in his swing so his rt elbow would not get stuck on the downswing.
