You do have the right idea by looking at GD, Tourstage and Srixon. any set you choose, the MB2, I505 or X-Blade Cavity 2 I'm sure you will be very happy. Just make sure it has the right shaft for you.
plus1
definately the shaft plays a massive roll in how the irons perform. im currently using the 1150 tours and boy are they alot more forgiving than the px. i can honestly say that you will not go wrong with either the tourstage or gauge design irons. VIQ forged would probably be the most forgiving forged iron ts produce at the moment..... In terms of forgiveness the gauge are untouchable, they really are soooo easy to hit. i just recently got the mb2s after using the nc1s and have not found any diffference in the forgiveness. if i were in your position id go gauge, however the new TS xblade 2 cbs are very tempting. :tsg_smiley_yes: Edited December 2, 2005 by plus1
Dicksy
Don't overlook the Scratch 2005 CB's. They are definitely the most forgiving and soft forged cb i've ever hit
Sam-Tee-Time
In my opinion - these are the "cream-of-the-crop" of Forged Cavity Back irons: Bridgestone J33 combos - these are GREAT, the new sole performs wonderfully. Callaway X-Tours - A new offering by Cally, seem to perform wonderfully, and are very forgiving. Hogan Apex Edge Pro - I play these, LOVE 'em. MacGregor 1025CM or 1025C combos.- Wonderful irons available for a great price. Mizuno MX-23 - One of the best forged cavity backs available Mizuno MP-32 - not as forgiving as the 23's, but schweet, beautiful irons Nike ProCombo - A little more crisp feeling, but their long irons are very easy to hit Titleist 690.CB - Not the most forgiving on earth, but they do perform well when struck well Tourstage Z101 - One of the best. I have a backup set of these, and love 'em Tourstage X-Blade CB - I've never hit these, but the newer versions look simply spectacular. http://www.golfdigest.co.jp/new_gear/news/...05/051020-2.jpg
sfgolfer
Hard to know w/o knowing your priorities around price and performance. But given you are even asking, I can sense a little about both. Looked at on a spectrum, I think you are - on one end - at the J33 Combo (still, IMO, the best deal going in golf right now) and the GD NC-1 on the other. If you are thinking about the GD, I'd also add the Miura CB-201 to you list of clubs to consider. Natch, I LOVE the new Scratch CBs but I don't know they are for everyone. You have to really appreciate the grinds. Clearly, d**ksy and I do!
plus1
sf, i would have to disagree with you on the Gauge vs Miura opinion. I have played both, i played miura 201s for a LONG time and found them very good, nice feel average forgiveness.....but when put agaisnt the gauge they crumbled! the gauge IMO feel much much softer, its a more pleasent strike......this actually left me thinking the miuras were quite firm. In terms of forgiveness the gauge are alot more user friendly. miss**ts with the miuras result in loss of distance and wayward, where as the gauge still had the same sweet feeling, still produce a high flight and fair distance! As for the scratch irons, they do rock! i would see these as mid way point from the miuras and the gauge - however if considering them you definately would need to keep them them for a long time as they do depreciate a lot! The original post was asking to recommend a forgiving forged cb............it all points to
ctlaltdel
If budget is a concern perhaps a nice used set of TS-202s ... not sure how you feel about offset though ...
mx-20
I will second the TS-202's! They are very forgiving AND they feel solid. The MX-23's are forgiving, but I don't think they have the TS-202 feel. I couldn't be more happier with a set of irons.
buzzsaw
If your looking for a forged CB that looks good its hard to find a nicer looking CB than these... http://img95.echo.cx/img95/8671/cb17yi.jpg
Phillip Alexander
Perhaps throw the Mizuno MP 60s into the mix. Chris could arrange for these or the Gauge's for you.
