Consultnj
looking to order two shafts this week for the holidays. I am a low 90mph smooth swing speed lefty..and tend to hit the ball a tad to high. I am looking to bring the flight down or make it more penetrating. I am also hoping to get a shaft that might be low spin. It seems most people here have at least tried one or two of these shafts and I am just so confused and looking for some advice.I am putting these in a 460 comp and a ping g5. Graphite Design 55 (new one) diaman 63 red and blue fuji rombax 60 gram Axiv ANY help would be just great!! Thank you in advance.
acrazygolfer
Consultnj, Good morning! Smooth swing - shafts in the high 50 grams to mid 60 grams are good with mid torque. SS 90 mph - you could be an in-betweener of R flex and S flex. Stay with R flex for more distance or tip no more than 1/2" for little stiffer but not to a sitff for more accuracy. High ball flight - assuming we are talking about ballooning, then you want a shaft with a mid to mid/high kick point. Spin - I don't have any experience with either the Comp or the G5. I'm leaning toward the Axiv 6060M or the Diamana Red M63 ®. Please read the thread "Graphite Shaft 101" for a brief review on graphite shafts. plus1
IMO you are definately an R flex! and yes you are looking for a mid to high kick shaft. If the flight was not an issue my recommendation for you would be the Diamana Red 63 r flex. However seeing you desire a lower flight, i would suggest you forget about the Diamana range. These tend to hit up, up and up! Great shaft that feels very smooth! The axiv 6060 (as Ben mentioned) Mid or High kick range would be my next recommendation for you. This range of shafts is awesome long but imo not as tight as the diamana. with the high kick you will notice a lower more penetrating flight, however no loss of carry. Both of these shafts have oodles of feel, which will suit you slower swing speed! Both will provide great distance, the diamana i feel will play tighter and the axiv will play longer! your call

From a performance perspective, I'd also add the Aldila NV (green) 65S. And, IMO, only strive to bring the ball down if you think you are losing distance because of the high flight (balooning, etc). Having been to a number of Tour events and spent a lot of time on the range watching those guys hit tee shots, I can tell you that Tiger et al bomb their tee shots far AND relatively high.
