How do you measure shaft length?

I have jsut had a custom fitting session, and to my surprise I am Mr standard!

Thats a standard in Mizuno. In a mizuno 6 iron I am standard = 37.25"

I was wondering how this is measured?

Also - if I want to use my nippon 1150s X, I have 38.5"-35 in 0.5 increments, so if I want to make my 6iron 'standard' what would happen? the 37.5 cut? or can 0.25 be added to the 37? How would it be added?

thanks for help.

As a general rule, the length of a club is defined as the line from the base of the sole to the butt of the club. However, this create a problem with the current design with "rocker" sole instead of the "flat" sole in the older irons and drivers. The current OEMs and GolfSmith calculate the distance with the sole flat on the ground (good reason to adjust the lies prior to butt trimming) with an imaginary line from the butt down to the ground.

Golfsmith offers a ruler with a hinged straightedge to measure the length. To extend a used steel shaft, you can either: (1) buy an aluminum extension or (2) use an old steel shaft.

thanks- just got a tape measure out and I now see what you mean (even though the measurement is fractionally out with the but of the club - but then I am using a tape measure......)

ANYWAY

1 more question - if the shaft is uncut - at 35", then depending on the club that shaft would be good for a 37" (due to the hossle for example?) - is that right?

thanks!!!

Mizzy uses the "Mitchell" ruler. Then they measure to the top line on the butt of the grip. Also, each shaft has a specific club it was made for. Go to the shaft manu site for install insrtuctions. If you put the wrong lenght in the wrong head, then you have effectively "hard or soft stepped" the shaft. :atsg_smilie_mizuno:
