scraper
I am looking into a new driver and both models are being considered. Has anyone hit both and can provide a comparison between the 2 heads. I will definitley reshaft the Bridgestone so the Tourstage shaft options are not really a consideration. Any info is greatly appreciated. putt4doh
I am looking into a new driver and both models are being considered. Has anyone hit both and can provide a comparison between the 2 heads. I will definitley reshaft the Bridgestone so the Tourstage shaft options are not really a consideration. Any info is greatly appreciated. I just hit the XDriver 405 and J33R420 at the range last night. First off, my two clubs had 2 VERY different shafts. So I'm not going to write about distance, spin rates, or trajectory. So what's left you might ask? Setup: Both set up beautifully to the ball. Dead square. Gorgeous finish and NO alignment aid, just pure smoothness. Shape: Although the J33 is 15cc bigger, they're both very similiar in shape. I would say the XDrive is a bit more 'aggressive' looking at address, but that's just my opinion. The only difference I can tell is on the roll toward the toe of the driver...the J33 is more rounded than the XDrive. So up to this point, it's a wash in my book. Both are beautiful drivers, nice shape, finish, size, and setup. The most pronounced difference is feel. Although they both have a tungsten screw in the head, there is a HUGE difference in feel. Feel: The J33 is incredibly solid (more solid than the J33460 IMO). Perhaps the most solid driver I've ever hit. As a function of it's solidness, I could tell if I hit it a score line skinny or fat and little on the toe or heel. I, for one, like to know where I'm missing. So thats a good thing. The XDriver felt much 'softer' at impact and very forgiving. I felt like I could hit it anywhere on the face and it would go like h*ll. As a result, I couldn't tell if I was hitting fat, thin, etc. To sum up: Golfsmith just emailed me to tell me that my shaft is on the way. So when it gets here, I'll build up them up to be the same setup. Then I can really do some comparing! Hope this helps.
+TourSpecGolfer
IMO, J33R is more forgiving with a slightly higher ball flight. The X-Drive has a better profile as the J33R has the synergy rounded toe look going on. The feel of the X-Drive is more pleasing due to the turbo rubber. The XD has a higher CG and its geared to the single digit player while the J33R is for all playing levels. It really depends on your game and budget. FYI X-Drive 460 should be out in a couple of months.
siteseer2
Pretty much dead on summary, T'spec... I'd add: X-Drive has full face scoring lines and looks more classic, with a better feel... J33 is slightly more foregiving, and feels ALOT better if hot-melted... the Xdrive 460 could be something out-of-this-world... But I hope they change the styling a bit on the 460-- the soleplate is a little plain jane, and the maroon has to go...
scraper
thanks for the input. I may have to wait for the x-drive 460.
