Anyone with any advice concerning shopping for clubs/golf related articles in Japan mainly Tokyo please drop me a line. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance. Grant

Yes but it will be expensive, if you need clubs while your in Japan i can have them 1 day sent to your hotel and beat any shop price in japan.

Just for kicks check out Victoria Golf in Shinjuku, its right out the 2nd floor exit of the JR line station. look up and you will see a giant ad for a golf brand on top of the building.

Chef,

I haven't bought anything from Chris (I got quotes for a few clubs last year and ended up not getting them as I had an abrupt increase in work and decrease in playing time) but he can get you some pretty good prices.

The prices he has for some gear I've been interested in have been equal or lower to what I could find in Japan or here in Thailand where I am at the moment. Definitely visit Victory Golf while you are there though, it is an amazing place from all accounts (I've looked at stuff in Kyoto but only heard about Tokyo stores from other people).

Most of the time, regular golf stores, like Victoria and large department store prices reflect or just slightly lower than MSRP which is no bargain. There are some discount outfits but unless some local directs you, they are difficult to find. Try Keiyo Golf (www.keiyo-golf.com) which mainly cater to club making and components. They suppose to have all hundred of shaft (high end stuff like all DG, Fuji, Axiv, NGS and even Roddio) for demo. if you are interested in trying out as many shafts as you can before buying, give this one a try.

Surprisingly most golf shops in the tourist area carry the same thing and sell at the same price. I would be in Tokyo also during the New Year but unlikely I would find things cheaper say like Thailand or Hong Kong but they would be definitely newer. Golf clothings is definitely better than any place else. :tsg_smilie_money3:

Try Jeep golf which is at the Ginza exit of Sinbashi station, very reasonable price, one of the cheapest in Tokyo. You can go to their website & find out the exact location. www.jypers.com.

Happy shopping in Tokyo.

I see you're from Toronto. Do you speak japanese og do they all speak decent english in Japan/Tokyo ?

I actually consider going on a trip to Tokyo next summer - would like to check out some of their high tech pc and HIFI gear and of course also visit a bundle of golfshops - but don't expect them to be cheaper than TSG prices, so will probably ONLY check it out and not buy golf gear there.

Duffer,

I've heard about Keiyo Golf, just haven't made it to their shop yet. It is on my to do list though!

As for Japanese gear being cheaper in Hong Kong or Thailand, I have seen a few deals, but for the most part Thailand seems inline with a less well known or discount shop in Japan. Maybe things will look different when I go shopping with one of my friends who lives here.

I have been going to Japan since 1963 and while I don't speak Japanese, I have no problem in getting around at all, especially in the major cities. As for shopping for golf and hi tech stuff, one does need to do own research. I am not sure about hi tech stuff but I find golf sale people in specialty stores are more knowledgeable than most sales in the west and language has never been a problem.

If you have a friend there in the know, Yokohama has quite a few stores to shop. They're not exactly in the touristy parts but they're not too difficult to find.

Thanks for all the help so far guys, really lookinbg forward to hitting some drivers with higher end shafts when I get there. Although im sure Chris will still beat them on price.

Have fun and be sure to eat lots of delicious food. If you like ramen you have try Ippudo. Best Hakata-style ramen in Japan.
