reggie
Has anyone tried the Akira TM Driver? I'm really happy with this club with the Fujikura Rombax 70 gram shaft. I've never hit anything this long and accurate. I was just wondering if it's just me or is it the 45 day rule? I've tried the Maruman Exim Nano and all the latest US spec drivers and nothing gave me the distance and feedback as this driver. I was also wondering if anyone has tried it, what shaft they had with it. I'm hitting a club, sometimes two clubs, less into holes on Harding. And it's easily carrying 260-270 with a nice swing and it's trajectory is nice and boring and seems to stay in the air longer. If anyone has tried it can they compare it to the other Japanese spec drivers? The Akira logo looks like something from Star Trek or the Acura. I'm waiting for an ON/OFF Driver which should get here soon so I have another JDM Driver to compare it to but as of now, all I can say about Japanese clubs is---WOW!!! The wedges are also terrific--superb bite and distance control and the hybrid is the first hybrid I've ever hit that I could swing--I could never hit the other hybrids out on the market for no particular reason. Duffer19
Akira is well respected but somehow never very popular. The Rombax is not stock but at least they offer Axiv as option. I would prefer the Katana over Akira as more proven.

siteseer2
Well, you might sound more believeable, if the plastic wasn't still on the clubs!!!!
Duffer19
Is Akira like Adams or Orlimar here in the states? Akira is way better than Adams or Orlimar in the States. It has only been around about 10 years and although it is a sort of 2nd tier brand, it costs just the same as the well know brands such as TS or XXIO. It is good quality stuff and I believe, aims at better players.
+TourSpecGolfer
If there is interest in Tsuruya, Akira, etc.. we will add them to the pro shop. You gotta try the Epon Reggie!

What is your opinion of the Katana Sword vs Akira driver? I have an older model Tsuruya and it is just ok and the face is definitely not 'soft' like what I have been hearing about the Epon. reggie
If there is interest in Tsuruya, Akira, etc.. we will add them to the pro shop. You gotta try the Epon Reggie! TSG, you're tempting me. I took those pictures when I first had the clubs that's why the plastic wrap is still on them. I've been hitting them really well with the Rombax shaft so I'm still hesitant to switch although I do have an ON/OFF on the way with the Roddio shaft--just taking a while for my buddy to get back from Japan. The funny thing about the Japanese clubs in comparison to the US clubs/shafts is that it took me a while to get used to how they like being swung--the Rombax had a very different feel when I load up on it in versus my old Grafalloy Blue shaft which was a board; I had to trust that the Rombax would not snap cuz I could feel the lag on my downswing which I never felt on the Grafalloy unless I really jumped on it. Now we're best of friends and as stupid as it is for me to experiment, I'm still going to try the On/Off. I want to get the Epon too because I keep on hearing about the terrific feel and as of now that's the thing lacking about the Driver's I have but I don't want to have buyer's remorse when the new model comes out and I'd like for you to let me know if the Epon would work better with the Roddio shaft or the Axiv. Choices, choices, choices. I'm also looking for irons when the new models come out later in the year. Of course, Epon Type S--MADE IN JAPAN--is on the top of the wish/want list. Are the Epon irons in the catalog made in Japan? If not, is there any way to get one made in Japan and how would one be able to distinguish them--serial numbers, different logo's etc.? How about made in Japan Black Gold, Rifle (Reg/TF) or Project X shafts with them?

You got about 11 months before epon releases their new driver. here is my honest take here, your trying low tier Japanese product when you could be spending your money on the top end. Akira, Tsuruya, Gorrilla, etc.. all B brands no real technology just another design with the same ol materials. What your looking for is particular things that make clubs perform or feel amazing. multiple forged ti materials and most importantly cold forged from Endo. Your spot on with the shafts your are choosing, its just the heads that are in question. I suggest Yonex Japan, Wilson Japan, Nike Japan and others over some B brands mentioned. Cyberstar is using solid tech in all their new models. But of course if I had my choice it would be EPON. No driver feels that good at impact. EPON is made in Niigata Japan, woods and irons. Ya know I do give discounts to active members via PM. Thanks, Chris

Thanks, Chris I certainly agree with you on Akira, Tsuruya and Gorilla being B- brand (with close to A brand pricing) but where would you put PRGR? It has not been as popular or rage as a few years ago.
