kevy_boy
Contemplating getting a set of Fourteen TC-770 Forged but was wondering how it would compare in terms of forgiveness against the Epon Type S. I currently have a set of Tourstage X-Blade CB2 and I'm looking for a second set of irons that is more forgiving.
+TourSpecGolfer
If those are the two you have narrowed it down to you are all good whichever way you go, just make sure they are proper lie/length/loft/grip/shaft/flex/Grip Size and swing weight for you. The type S is longer heel to toe, wider sole, less offset by a hair, and overall more forgiving. The 3-6 irons have an undercut cavity making off center hits more forgiving and giving long irons ease of use. The short irons feel better at impact than the long because of this. Custom options with epon are the best, shafts are tipped and prepped via robot, heads and ferrules are inserted by a machine, grips too, torsion testing done on the clubs shaft even before the install, there is a full quality inspection at the end as well. The 770 has a better feel at impact due to design being closer to a blade, the 770 is shorter heel to toe and imo has the perfect amount of offset. After market mods must be done at TSG as there is no custom options from the OEM. If you can handle the 770 you can handle the Type J, both feel unreal pure when you hit them well, both are easy to control and forged by Endo of J.I.S steel. idrive
I have played the CB2 and the Epon Type S. IMO the Epons are much more forgiving. They also have a much more "solid" feeling... and still feel like butta. You want to tell your playing partner how good the shot you just hit felt. Can't tell you about the TC-770's.. wish I could. Good Luck
Breal
The 770 is the best iron I have hit to date, and I was concerned about the offset at first, but Chris is right its perfect for a iron IMO also. The feel is bar none to anything i have hit in the past. I have not hit the epon yet but as for the 770 they are so pure and they are one of the most beautiful simple irons I have seen in a long time. I glad I made that choice.. I sure you cant go wrong with either iron so they will both be a good choice from what im hearing about the Epon irons.
kevy_boy
So the TC-770 Forged is considered more player's cavity like the Type J? Judging by the pictures, I thought the TC-770 Forged was more game improvement with its thick topline.
Blader-X
So the TC-770 Forged is considered more player's cavity like the Type J? Judging by the pictures, I thought the TC-770 Forged was more game improvement with its thick topline. In their website Fourteen touts this club as one "making a feel good iron for above-average players." They make other models for game improvement such as the TC-550 and the cast TC-770. This model the Forged TC-770 is one that brings playability and workabilty into the club. They call it "not so hard, not so easy." Thicker toplines are just what you get with cavity backs, be it player's cavities or game improvement cavities. I for one hate thick toplines but this club looks really good and there's not a lot of offset to it, at least what I can tell from pics. It looks good at setup. Breal
These irons are not game improvement at all they are gamers. The topline is not thick at all, it is about the same topline thickness as the R7 TP irons. These are a player cavity that gives you a little more ease in playing and a great feel enhancement for ball control. They are great and you cant go wrong for a player cavity like the 770 forged. Im going through some swing changes from taking a long break due to injury and as a low single digit handicap. And now coming back I was a little higher now I made some swing changes got the 770 forged and it is back to business of being a player again. These irons gave me the feel feedback I needed to get that ball striking skills back to solid. I will have them in the bag until there are holes in the middle of the clubs. +TourSpecGolfer
They are players cavity backs, I would say just as player as the Type J's and the XCB2 is right around that same ball park.
