Anyone try Nippon Putter shafts?

Hi T:

Do you really think it makes any difference (for a putter) whether it is a Nippon or DG or Hickory as long as it is proper weight?

Of course it does, just as loft lie and balance is important for a putter 90g vs 120 vs 140 vs 160 grams shaft in a putter change things up quite a bit.

Gocchin, You G-Field premium zones already have the 130-140g version in them.

My G-Field Premium Zone has one in it, nice shaft but I am not convinced that there is much difference between putter shafts of equal weight! In a putter I look for balance, feel, overall weight, comfortable grip, ease of alignment.

My Nippon iron shafts are the best I have ever used so I am happy to have one in my putter, it gives me one less thing to worry about in the area that has always been my achilles heel - if i could put I would be down to scratch in no time!

This is exactly my point- putter shafts of equal weight with the rest (head weight, loft and grip) being equal would make very little difference in feel.

Only one way to find out I guess is to putt the same putter side by side with different shaft.

It would for sure be hard to notice a difference of the same weight but put under a camera to measure skip or taken to a putter fitting session you will see there is not only a difference in the way the shaft feels but also in the way your ball rolls differently when compared to each other.

I do know of putter makers and tour players who have a preference based on feel or results.
