YURURI Forged RAW 61* Wedge Pics!!

Recommended Posts

Sounds like you had a great round with them Ajay, very promising results to go on. Thanks for the great preliminary review~!

I did. Thanks. After another round... I can say with confidence that this wedge is deadly.... full shots, half shots... chips...the spin.....can't wait for the 53*

Context... I generally play 52/56/59 zodia combination. My backup set is 52/56/60 GFT wedges.... But I have played many others, Titliest spin milled, y-cutters, Xtours, Gas 2 and Gas 1....

As i have become a better player with the driver........I have realized that I am either within the 10-40 yards from the green (par 5s or missed shots, or overshooting the green or getting a bad bounce... Coupled with the par 5s, long par 3s (on my course, three play close to 200 with severe dropsoffs) and some par 4s... I can find myself in this situation about 7-8 times a round if not more....

So I have learnt to hit the lob wedge very well.. However, the greens on my course are very fast (usually at 11-12), and severely undulating. You have to stop the ball on the right level....or you are facing a difficult put over 30-40 feet.

With the zodia 59 (and most of the other wedges)....I needed to have a steeper swing, because of the higher bounce on japanese lob wedges and less leading wedge relief (probably works better on japanese golf courses...no idea), but it results in a ball that rolls a bit more.. I wanted a japanese wedge that will allow me to get under the ball very quickly...from the fairway, the rough, anywhere.... the zodia was great from the rough or full shots, but for open faced lob shots that were 5-10 yards and needed to stop within 4-6 feet of landing.... it was found wanting..

The Yururi 61* wedge is a very classy looking wedge (i am not putting pics up as there enough up already), but the black look is princely... The 61* has 5* bounce which is relatively lower (that attracted me to the wedge and the 2* of higher loft), but the kicker is that it has much much better leading edge grind that allows the club to glide under the ball... the leading edge grind of the zodia 59* (my primary lob wedge till now) tends to bounce a bit when played open-faced....

My specs were 1150 stiff , D-5 SW and 35" length.

Ultimately, results count..I rate a lob wedge by how many balls end up in the one - putt range (which is generally anything within 5-6 feet for me - generally have a 80-90% success on those putts).

I had 10 ocassions to use the lob wedge in the round yesterday (I deliberately chipped with it when normally I would have used a 52*)... three of them were shots from 30-50 yards over trouble (bunkers etc..).. two of these shots were within the one-putt range... the rest of the shots were even closer - 2-3 feet away.....

The reason... i could feel the ball climbing up the face of the wedge and when it landed on the green it bit almost immediately and rolled for 4-5 feet, no more...when I tried to zip it back a couple of times... it zipped back more than usual (means I have to allow more room for it next time)....

It feels softer than the zodias...I am going to play the GFTs again next week to compare the feel with them...

In the end... the wedge turned out everything that I had hoped it will be...I really love opening its face an hitting the high soft shots.....When I close it it flies longer, but still bites a lot and doesn't roll that much more....

The zodia 56 and 59* came out of the bag... in went a gfield 5 wood (to be replaced with the Epon 5 wood when its delivered) and the yururi 61*. Also, I ordered a 53* Yururi to go with the 61*

I will post an update after I have played 10-15 rounds with it......

The wedge looks beautiful, and performs up to its looks. Very encouraging.

The wedge was delivered this morning. Haven't had time to take pictures or examine it closely. But from what I can tell it looks beatiful and the craftmanship is outstanding. Will shaft it up today or tomorrow

Thanks a lot for the quick and outstanding service. Much appreciated.

Sincerely

Per

What is the shaft tip for this wedge?

Should be 0.355 like most JDM irons unless they shipped initially with graphite.

Why would JDM irons be 0.335 as most irons shafts are 0.370 and a few at 0.350. NSPro are 0.370 right T?

No most irons are Taper Tip 0.355 not 0.335" (which many driver shafts are) which are the most common iron shafts. NS Pro shafted OEM irons are all 0.355" though Nippon does offer 0.370 as shafts only.

Now that you mention this are you sure you weren't telling me this morning that your hybrid is 0.355 not 0.335 which would make more sense as most JDM hybrids seem to be 0.350-0.370? ^_^

Sorry T:

My eyes is going the way of my swing. The 3 and 5 look the same. The Mactac hybrid is 0.335 which would accepts most wood shaft as advised by the shop owner but not the GD hybrid shaft.

No probs R, did you already grab the MacTec? Stock shaft no good?

No sir, they are selling heads only and of course you can get it shafted with the original Mactac shaft. Since it would not take the GD shaft, I am not getting it for the time being as the 23 deg is out of stock. I would check out another store and see any Gauge Ut left.

Hi Keen,

What's the latest on these? With some course time in, do you still feel the same? Or is the honeymoon phase over?

Thanks for the feedback.

So, here are a few more impressions after playing 36 holes yesterday. Unfortunately my short game is nowhere near what it was at the end of last season so bear that in mind.

The feel to me is amazing. I'm coming from TM RAC Black TPs and the difference, again to me, is astounding.

I had a heavier than usual shaft installed which took a bit getting used to, so my distance control was a bit off. But it feels much better than the regular TT ones in the TPs.

It also spun much more than the RACs. I'm not good enough, yet, to spin it back but I did produce a few drop and stop shots. But it was also a bit hard on the balls :D I expect that will get better the more I use it.

All in all I recommend it highly, but then again I haven't tried all the other great japanese brands so I can't really compare it in any way. However, this has opened up my eyes to jdm wedges and I really would like to try out some of the other ones, especially the epons :tsg_smilie_love:

I'll update my impressions when I get more time on the course and the range. Hopefully my short game will get up to its usual level as well :tsg_smilie_fever:
