Axiv V

I'm typically an X-flex guy and I like my shafts in the 265CPM/65-73gr range with a mid-kickpoint and high launch/medium to low spin. I have a smooth tempo in the 108-110mph range. Which Axiv should I consider? 7072 or 7076? Or is there anther Axiv model better suited for my profile. I do not like "Altus" style shafts that have the feel of being wippy.

Sounds like you're describing the 7076.

I have the 7072 in the Epon and would increase the stiffness if I had your 110 mph ss.

Thanks guys, the feedback is much appreciated. Overall, do you like the playing characteristics of the Axiv shafts? Eveyone seems to give them very high praise. Question for the shinichi808; was the Axiv inserted full or blind bore? If its full bore then that would explain the jump in CPM's. Definitely think 278CPM's is to stiff for this little italiano. Sounds like the 7076 might be the ticket...

I'm in the 110+ SS, I have a 7072 in a FT-5 and its perfect- in fact its the best I have 'ever' had!(the ft-5 is like tipping 1/2")...I tried the 7072 in 425tp and its much too soft-- I would definiately go 7076 or 7080 in a swallow bore head.....These are wonderful shafts for me...I going to put an 8080 in my 3wood too!

Also, I'd becareful going just off of the cpm rating- as I think they play pretty soft according to those ratings, at least compare with other manufactures..

The AxivV's do play a little softer. I too would say go with the 7076. I have the 8076 right now and I draw the ball even though its supposed to take the left side out of play. Its a very good shaft but the way Mamiya measures their stiffness is different than other manufactuerers. See previous older posts about this.

Kick butt feedback guys; as a reference I too realized that the FT-5 Tour seems to measure shafts a bit tighter. I really like the Grafalloy Axis in X-flex; dry shafted my tour issue FT-5 with one just to see what it would be and it CPM'ed at 275! I've played this shaft in two other heads and it wasn't even close to that. Verdict is in; It's the 7076 then. I will do a full review once its installed.

I just got a 8072 stiff and I dont know if I want to cut it down to 44" or play it at 45"? What do you guys thing? I currently play a rombax 6W06 x-flex in a Srixon 505. I am going to put the axiv in a ZR600. Should I leave as is or cut down to make it stiffer and possibly tip?

This has been answered before.

As the previous two posts mentioned, graphics down, silver up.

Carlton who is trained by Mamiya concurs on this as well from previous postings.

Graphics down it is; I can't wait to have my tour issue FT-5 back on Wednesday! This bad boy should be a cannon. Thanks everyone for the help, I wanted to get it right the first time.

Give it few rounds and keep us updated as to how it works out for you!

Will do; we played with shaft position today to see how the CPM's would playout at 44.5*/D3 with a five inch clamp and a 50gr grip. It appears it will CPM in the 266-269 range untipped which is perfect! The tour issue head weighed in at 200grs on the nose. These are legit numbers for a very good shaft in that weight and flex range so I have no doubt it will workout very nicely. I was happy I didn't need to fiddle around with tipping as I personally feel more than .5' of tip in a driver changes the dynamics of the shaft but thats just my feeling; I'm sure many would argue this incuding my club guru which feels 1' tip is still OK. More to come...

This would probably have been covered in detail else where, however what is the basic difference between he original Axiv and the Axiv V.

I understand the Axiv V takes out the left side of the fairway, but what characteristic in the shaft does this?

The bad shot with the existing driver shaft is a big block cut. The existing shaft is a TP 85MT Mitsubishi Rayon. The cpms on this is 261, however it feels a lot stiffer.

A good swing, normally gets it out there 270 to 280.

My swing speed with the driver last time it was measured was 108mph.

This may be a bit of a thread jack, however I too am interested in the Axivs. Same deal as Big Ben, I just want to get the right one.
