dcfas
Greets, What a forum you folks have here-- and wow, awesome products in the shop. I need a recommendation based on some specifics: Forged Uncluttered aesthetics Negligible offset Thin top-line Small to medium sized head Workable yet forgiving D-2 or 3 swingweight (.5 or 1 is too light) I am a 0-5 index and have played MP-14's for the last ten years. I'd rather hit a 3-iron than a wood; it's my favorite club in the bag. My back is shot and I need something more forgiving without giving up a millimeter of performance, if that is possible. I'm 5'8", 160 lbs. My 8-iron is 61* lie, and 40* loft; I hit it 150yds with a 3/4 swing (I don't swing beyond 3/4). I enjoy both cutting and drawing the ball, but find it easier to cut. I nearly always try to shape the ball on approach, either sideways or up and down (straight makes me nervous). I have a smooth swing, reaching 110mph with driver, and 95mph with 6-iron. Very slow take away. I've speced (as well as I could): G-Field NC-1 (These folks still around?) Srixon I-505/506 Mizuno MP-60 TM R7 TP TM R7 Forged Tourstage X CB Epon J PRGR 910 Forged Fourteen TC-770 Forged Where I live the only irons above that can be held in hand are the Mizzys and the TM TP's. Any specific help in narrowing this list down would be greatly appreciated. I won't be purchasing until the end of the season, but I'm a bit of a perfectionist and like to know whatb I'm getting into for the next ten years TIA dcfas

PRGR 900MD, Epon Type J, Fourteen 770 Forged are at the top of my list. G-Field went bankrupt last week in Japan so no they are not around anymore. DCFAS, Chris is the expert, but for what you're after, I'd just like to echo his three choices. My personal favourites are the TC-770 Forged, but the 900 MD is a very high quality stick, and the PRGR M series shafts are very nice as well; you'd probably enjoy the M46 steel shaft, although a Nippon 1150 in X might work well too. I don't have nearly as much experience with the Type J's, but Chris and few other guys on here have nothing but good things to say about them. Chirs, sorry to hear that G-Field officially went under... hopefully things will go better for Romaro.
ClubHoUno
If you used to play Mizuno Mp-14 blades, I would certainly opt for either Mp-32 or Mp-60. And I don't see Miura's on your list - they are in my view the best forged irons when it comes to a proper combination of club head design, loft, bounce, brand recognition and quality of forgings (Spin welded will not come out of loft and lie as easily, while they to me still feels as great as the Mizuno forgings - please note that I own two Mizuno iron sets and two Miura iron sets, so I have actual proof of my allegation, as subjective this allegation might me) I would most certainly also consider these: Miura Giken Cb-1006 Miura Cb-201 Miura Cb-301 - in my view the best looking players cavity back ever made. Resembles the Macgregor PCB Tour Miura forged irons sets from 1999. Offset looks like ZERO, topline very thin, as soft feeling as my Mizuno Mp-32 set and still more forgiving. Other favorites on your hitlist must be: Epon Type J, Fourteen TC770 Forged (though with a bit too fat topline and slightly too much offset in my view) and Tourstage X Cb 2. ramizuno13
MP-32's Can't go wrong. You get extra forgivness over the 14's without losing any of the playability. Get them while they're still around.
dcfas
Thanks for the advice. There are others I've considered, as well, including the Miuras and Scratch golf. At a demo day recently I tried a Titleist 755 6-iron and didn't want to give it up; I had a stupid smile on my face all day. Rather unattractive, though. I've also tried the Callaway X-20 Tour and X-Forged, as well as the Ping S-58, and the Nike. The 20's were too clunky and the Forged didn't feel as sweet. Are the MP-32's and 67's blades? I'll have to try them out. One of these days I'll try the Srixon I-506's, too. They look like a possibility. Back to the high end goods: What a shame on the G-Fields-- I think they were at the top of my list.
mramage
Are the MP-32's and 67's blades? I'll have to try them out. I just got a set of 32's. They are great because although they don't have a distinct cavity they have the "cut muscle" which has a cavity like effect. Therefore, they look like a blade, feel like a blade, but have quite a bit of forgivness. They have the perfect amount of forgivness for my game. They 67s are more of a traditional blade and although they have a "cut muscle", it is not very effective. I personally don't think the MP60s are that much more forgiving then the 32s (not enough to not get the fully chrome back.) One thing you will notice going from mp14 is that you will hit 32s about 1 1/2 clubs further. If you do decide on the Mizuno's - get them from the custom shop here! ramizuno13
The 67's are pure blades. The 32's have a false cavity in the back(Cut Muscle) which give it a softer feel and slightly(very slight!) more forgiveness. Go to mizunousa.com to find a demo day near you. You'll be able to tryout all the different models. Then comes the good part. If you decide on Miz, Chris can order you the real cool custom options. The Logo'ing that we can't get here. They seem awesome but I think I want to try something new. Is it an optical illusion or is the head on the PRGR's larger rather than smaller? http://forum.tourspecgolf.com/index.php?showtopic=22806 And the Tourstage? The pix in this forum are outstanding-- These irons are so beautiful it makes me think twice about spanking the dirt with them. I might be tempted to hang them in a case on the wall in my living room. I love the Guage Design-- and am sick they are history.
