First Impression

I recieved these last week and tuned them up with a set of True Temper Tour Concept S3's spined. My setup is one degree stronger than stock and one degree flat. I set them up at D2 with stock lengths. As I have many iron sets I will compare them to my most recent gamers; Miura CB-201's. First; they are mid size but not bulky or drastically offset. I really like the setup as they hide there midsize quite well. First thing I noticed today (first round) in wet conditions is the nice mid bounce grinds. I'm a picker of the ball but even when I missed a shot I didn't notice significant digging. The feel seems soft for an endo forged iron but not as soft as the Miuras. I actually found the feel to be a wonderful balance between a crisp and soft forged feel. Very easy to recognize the quality of these sticks. This is my second PRGR product and I'm quickly becoming a big fan. These are very similar in playing characteristics (ball flight; workability, etc.) but more forgiving on mis**ts. I had no problem working the ball high and low as well. In a nutshell; players CB performance from a more forgiving midsize iron; hard to beat that! This would be a wonderful set to introduce to a person considering the move to a players iron without the tricky transition. Blade guys may find these a bit to large but not bulky at all. Hope this helps; I will offer more feedback as I log more time with these. My early impression is very nice looking high quality iron set for the low to mid handicaper looking for a high performance iron with a bit more forgiveness. PRGR is sweet fellas!

Thanks for the initial review and we look foward to hearing more. Do those clubs look as sweet in the flesh as they do in the pics? Or, even more so??

They are really very sweet looking in person. Then again; every single PRGR product I've seen eludes an overtone of quality if you ask me. I played another round today and yet again no letdowns at all. They offer me everything I'm looking for in regards to workability but in an easy to use package. I want to play them a few more rounds then bag my other endo's (MR-23 US Specs) to see which set I like better. I'm pretty sure these are much more forgiving on ball strikes a hair off center. These are definitely more forgiving than my blades. The grinds on these babies seem to have been very well thought out. This and the overall feel (TC's and cork didn't hurt either!) are with out question the 900MD's strong suits.

These irons are beautiful-- just as sweet looking as in the pix. They have the odd quality of being larger on the clubface surface without appearing larger at all. I am getting mine back tomorrow from the shop where I had a fitting done on each and every iron. Peculiar there too; I'm flat 1* on 4-8, and neutral on 9 and PW. Go figure. Anyway, they feel lighter than the MP-14's yet very soft. The Mizzys feel equally soft, yet more solid at impact. Not better or worse, just different. This could also be the shafts, of course (M-43).

BTW I did the conversion on MPS v. MPH on swing speed and 43 MPS is roughly 96 MPH. I don't swing my irons that fast so I'm guessing I have the right shaft.

This is the way PRGR rates their shafts, it is a reference to driver ss.

Ahh-- I wasn't sure about that but had assumed the M-43 may have been an indicator of 43 meters per second ss.

I believe the kick points are the same for the 43 and the 46-- high. Anyone have any knowledge on this?

M-43 is a reference to 43 m/s swing speed for driver. This has been PRGR designation for years on shaft stiffness.

Does that mean that if I swing around 43m/s with my driver I'm in the range with the m-43 iron shafts?

Yes it does. The PRGR steel spec shafts are made by Nippon, they feel very smooth and silky imo. Im happy you guys are enjoying the irons.

Thanks for the information-- that is exactly what I wanted to know! I never swing at full clip with the irons (3/4). I would say that I'm only just over the 43 MPS with the driver. This week has been too busy for me to actually get out onto the course. But I promise to give more feedback in the coming weeks.

Post note: When I had them bent I once again perused the shelves of irons. I have no doubt that the club heads of the PRGRs are ideal in shape and size compared to all the other major US domestics (for me). They appear at address to be small with a very thin topline-- but in actuality are larger and sweeter (think spot). In short-- they're perfect.
