Mjr. D
Just finsihed my third round of golf this week. Before i get into what i'm about to get into, i just want to say, if any of you are considering a 3 wood........don't even entertain the idea of getting anything other than the Epon Technity 3 wood. 14th hole today........567yrd par 5. Hitting my driver like crap all day, hit my drive maybe 260. Second shot, I pull out the Technity 3 wood..........smash a laser right onto the green with a soft landing. That club is soooo good it's scary! I've owned a few 3 quality 3 woods in my day and this thing's trajectory and distance is nothing short of unbelivable! I'm not one for BS claims. I s**t you not, this thing absolutely crushes the ball. I have mine shafted with a Mach Line Fairway shaft......wonderful shaft. Very accurate. NOW, onto my main concern. I'm curious as to what you guys have to say. I have a bunch of different wedges, Fourteen, Technity, Epon X, Yururi raw black, Gekku, PRGR, Tourstage X, Vokey, Mizuno and Cleveland. The best feeling wedge is the Epon X........it's very close though. I like Fourteen a lot, Raw Black Yururi and Mizuno and Tourstage. The Technity spins the ball the most out of any of these wedges by far. I'm not sure how you guys feel about spin in a wedge but how much is too much? I hit my wedges today, especially on pitch and chips today, very well. However, i found a lot of my shots literally stuck (even from close fringe chips) to the green like the ball was sticking to a piece of velcro. Several times, i landed the ball at one place expecting it to roll it's way up to or near hole. However, with these crazy high spinnng wedges, especially the Technity, you can take the roll pretty much right out of the equation. What are your guys thoughts on this? Is there such thing as too much spin in a wedge? Is this just a transition you need to get used to?

Mjr. D
I like the low profile on the Technity as well. Mine is 13.5. I actually hit a 13.5 better than a 15.....at least of firm ground. I think the amount of spin is just a personal preference. As with anything, when there's change, it's just a matter of getting used to whatever it is. But ya, wow, I had one shot today from 15 yards when the ball hit the green and spun back! Crazyness. Crazyness. i am using the 15* and i actually have had greater success hitting it on light fluffy rough as oppossed to fairways. guess the little elevation always helps. from the tee no doubt its a keeper. sounds like you know what you want. that always good i on the other hand am still in the experimentation stage, havent been playing long. as for wedge shots i always want a little spin but not too much. there are so much possibilities that its mind boggling but i usually am very very happy if i can consistenly make shots wherein the ball bites and moves +/- 1-2 yards before stopping . havent had much success lately,
idrive
Spinning the ball... The ball you are using makes a difference. The Green itself makes a BIG difference. The lie of the ball makes a difference. Type of shot makes a difference I'm sure I'm forgetting other variables. I've hit 15 yard shots with a full swing, I've hit them with just a tap... Closed face, wide open face... Wedge play is the most challenging shot in the game. One of the few shots that is different almost every time. but I'm with you on this one Mjr. D. The EPON wedges are fantastic. I've hit most every wedge out there and the EPONS end up back in the bag. As far as to much spin? As long as you can afford new Golf balls is there such a thing?? and... the EPON FW's rule... IMO

IMO jeff have you had time to do a head to head chikara epon comparison? we are all eager to see your comments on your new wedges. as for spinning the ball, yes there are just so many variables and its interesting you mentioned the golf ball. i am using el cheapo maxfli noodles for 90% of my game. since my handicap is relatively high mid 20s im more concerned about not losing any balls:)
daamartin
I've had the Technity wedges (52/56/60) for a few months now and hit many balls. When they were new they shredded balls in a scary way - I was worried! Now the grooves have settled in a bit they are perfect. Our winters in Australia produce dry, hard and firm conditions and these wedges are the beez underpants! My brother got the copper ones and he loves em too. ajaykkr
its never too much.. once you get used to it, you will learn to control the spin. much easier to get close by landing the ball to land beyond the flag and pull it back.... or stop it next to to the flag for those tight pin positions... gives more room for error... if the flag is far away, let the ball roll if not with your wedge, with your PW or short irons.. froggy10
I guess the question is ... do you prefer to fly or roll it? My experience says rolling it is the percentage way to go. Out of curiosity, how deep faced is this Epon 3W? I don't care for deep faced 3W unless it's sort of a backup tee ball wood. Love, love my Sonartec SS-07. Fuji Tour Platform is great. Also, I absolutely love the look of the Yururi Raw wedge look. How do those play and how is the finish looking like now? What kind of shaft are you using those with? What kind of shaft are you using those with? rolling is not always the option, particularly if you play on undulating greens or greens with tight pin positions (and you are caught on the short side).... the yururis are very good wedges,.... very nice grind and look. ... performance is top class.....lots of spin... the 61* works very well from tight lies.... but it will rust... mine are after a couple of months..... idrive
rolling is not always the option, particularly if you play on undulating greens or greens with tight pin positions (and you are caught on the short side)... Exactly, I do roll the ball whenever possible. Depending on how far off the green and how much I have to work with I will use almost any club in the bag to chip with. BUT, when there isn't much green to work with the answer is flop it up to the pin and make it stop. I love throwing darts at the pin. Practicing the lobber and knowing how much to open it, how hard to hit it is the way to go. Stroke saver 101....
