Backspin9
I'm currently playing a Bridgestone J33R 460 10.5* with a Diamana RedBoard 63g shaft. I like the set-up and get very good distance out of it although sometimes it does hit a bit high. Nothing unruly, and it doesn't balloon at all. Kind of a higher arcing shot than I like and the rollout is still pretty good. I have a 2007 TourStage X-Drive 460 10.5* coming and on TSG's recommendation I'm putting an AXIV 6068M shaft in it. What could I expect to see as far as change in trajectory and forgiveness? I'm hoping for a slightly lower shot and a touch more forgiveness. I hit my J33R pretty straight and misses are generally a slight push. The J33R gets great distance and while that isn't a problem, I can always use a little more!! Can I expect to see any kind of distance gain with this head and shaft combo? It's going to be a couple of weeks before I get this whole thing put together and I'm already antsy to see what it can do. Thanks for the help!! gocchin
The X-Drive is not the most forgiving driver. It's meant for the lower handicap player. It is however a very solid driver that plays true to loft usually. You should see good results paired with the Axiv. Remember when you first get it to realize that it WILL be a different feel from your J33R. If you can strike the ball well and hit the sweet spot consistently, you should be pretty happy with it's performance. Of all the new 2007 line X-Drives the 460 does launch the lowest so that should be promising. (^_^)
Backspin9
Thanks for the info. I play to a 4 hdcp. and I'm a pretty accurate, usually hitting 10-12 fairways a round. If this head and shaft combo can just give me a little lower ballflight I think it will be fine. I like the RedBoard but always felt the lower kickpoint launched the ball a little high. If the AXIV can lower that a little the descent of the ball should be a shallower and give some better roll-out. The AXIV also has a little more torque than the RedBoard which should give it a little more feel. I've played Fujikura 569's in drivers before with good results and those have a lot more torque than a RedBoard, but also launched a little high. I liked the idea of the AXIV because the torque was a little higher than the Diamana and because of the mid-kick. I'm hoping it will work out well. Just out of curiousity, how does the feel of the X-Drive differ from the J33R?
Duffer19
You, being a 4, would not have any issue with the xdrive 460. Being a 14/15 hdcp, I did not have any problem with the old xdrive 405 which is less forgiving than the new 460cc. I gave the 405 to a friend's son as the PT-7 Stiff was a tad too much work for me. You would find the AXIV-m to be a slightly lower the Red but not much. I find the Diamana white gives me more feel and lower flight than the AXIV-m. I personally find the distance to be fairly similar between the Diamana white and the Axiv-m. I have never played the AXIV-h but did not like the L. bartolomeo1
XD 460 with LTD or F7M2 would be a great low launch/spin combo Bart
acrazygolfer
The X-drive/Axiv combo is a great combo. For my SS profile (high ball & high spin 105 mph), the J33r 10.5* and the x-drive 10.5* w/the same Axiv model (6568H) are pretty much the same - lower ball flight w/more roll than other 10.5* drivers (name the company). The J33r is just a tad more solid at impact than the X-drive while the X-drive is a tad more foregiveness than the J33r. I feel bad for you because it's a pain in the @$$ to have to decide which of the two drivers to bring to the course.
