Help me all, please!

Live in Florida and the JDM stuff is so hard to even look at much less try.

I have been playing Cally x-forged with Stiff Black Gold for several months. I play well with them but never felt perfect. Wanting to replace them and going on looks and feedback I have read here I am going one of two directions.

Taylor R7 Forged or Epon Technity Type S.

Will be going Black Gold or Nippon shafts.

Have yet to see either in person but I am going to trust the expers here. Any help would be awesome................

What are you looking more of? (forgiveness, height, length, specific sole grind, setup, offset, etc..)

the R7 is more of a players cavity back and the Type S has an undercut on the mid to longer irons. I've seen more people sell Type S than R7 Forged overall, not sure if it really means anything, I use to own a set of Type J's, didn't work for me.

The Black gold and Nippons are different so you have to find the shaft for you. The Nippons generally is lighter and feels softer where the BG's are boardie and heavier. I currently own both shafts, good shafts, but different.

As far as the Type S, Chris is having an excellent sale on them, under 900 for a new set.

Someone had a Type S with spined Black Golds on ebay 2 weeks ago for 700 and no one bought them. All just data points, you really have to pinpoint on what you're looking for. Both are good irons.

The R7 Forged are just special, many guys on TSG have multiple R7 Forged sets.

I've never seen one go for cheap, I truly think they will hold value. A new sexy Epon line of irons are coming out, hence the year end sale.

I never put much weight into whether there is a lot of a specific model of club for sale. There just happen to be less R7 Forged around as it is considered a limited model. Lots of people buy Epon and it's not uncommon to see them for sale because the people who buy them love to change clubs a lot. Myself included. If you look at other sites you see tons of the same items whether it be tour issue R7 driver heads or whatever for sale. People buy, try, and ho their clubs. In the end I wouldn't base my decision on what's for sale and not but what's best for me. There was a set of R7 Forged on ebay last week for 695 buy it now I think, I was tempted to pull the trigger but got Srixon ZR-600's instead because I felt the grind better suited my swing.

The Type S will indeed be more forgiving and as Jack said, with any iron purchase, the shaft is what will make the head. What I have found is that irons are truly a personal thing as any club is. I love collecting my irons but the fact is some just don't work for me, but may work for others. Lots to choose from out there for sure. Your handicap must be not bad if your playing the X-Forged so you can handle both irons for sure. The R7 will be more compact than the Type S, thinner sole, more comparable to the J's and ZR-600.

Looks like Ed already bought John's Type S on ebay for a steal!

Good job.

I can't wait to see the new line coming soon. We all got a glimpse from an avatar a few weeks ago, what a tease =)
