tkmp
I am trying to choose between these three iron sets. I have seen the fourteen TC-770 in person but not the Epons. I will appreciate any feedback regarding the following: 1. Which club is more forgiving? 2. Which club feels softer at impact? 3. Which Epon model is closest in size to the TC-770? Many thanks in advance.

Many thanks in advance. I've been able to try all 3 clubs in the range. Here's my take. 1) The AF501 is the most forgiving, the TC-770 next, then the AF301 2) I liked the feel of the AF301 the best. Soft but solid feel. The TC-770 will take second place. Also soft and solid, but just not quite as soft as the 301. The AF501 still feels soft, but more clicky as opposed to solid in the mid-long irons because of the undercut channel w/ spring steel face. 3) AF501. The TC-770 has the thickest topline of the bunch. Shepherd, Can you describe alittle more about your experience with the AF301 irons? Are there any current or past irons that you would say these are similar to? I've never played/hit an Epon iron, but recently ordered a set. Your feedback would be appreciated. Brian

bogeydog
I have the AF301s and had the AF501s when they were named Type S. I wouldn't characterize the AF301s as not forgiving. I would say they actually are fairly forgiving. I didn't like the Type S, as they seemed to be too short in length from heal to toe. They also felt soft like forged should, but not as solid as the AF301s. The 301s have a very different feel to me in that they are super solid and soft at the same time...Hard to explain, but unique to Epon IMO. I've been able to try all 3 clubs in the range. tkmp
I currently play with Mizuno MP-60s, do you have any idea if the Epon 301s' are as forgiving and similar in size to the MP-60s? Im quite happy with the MP-60s but I keep reading about the soft feel of the Fouteen TC-770 and the Epons and I would like to give them a try. shepherd
The MP60's are slightly bigger than the 301. Forgiveness is about the same. Bogeydog is right. The 301s are fairly forgiving for its type and size. The feel is definitely more solid compared to the somewhat mushier feel of the Mizuno's. I've been playing with Callaway X-Forged for several months. I'd say the 301's are very similar in terms of size, forgiveness and playability. +TourSpecGolfer
Both the fourteen 770 forged and the Epon 301 are amazing clubs, the Epon 501 is a great club that is for sure more forgiving on off center shots but I would base it on where you make contact on the face and how consistently. If your mis hits are out near the toe more than heel, or high center then you may want to consider the 501 and sacrifice some feel. If your mis hits are near the toe or higher center than either the 770 forged or Epon 301 will do you good.
