Hi all,

What's the concensus for the top 3 or so hybrids/utility clubs to replace a 3 iron and possibly a 4 iron. Thanks in advance for your responses!

And should I keep the stock shaft or upgrade?

Firstly I dont think there would be a consensus but I can tell you which ones work for me. I have tried quite a few JDM makes but Fourteen (21*) and Yoshimura (22*) works for me the best and most consistently. I dont see the need to change the stock shaft if the club works. If the hybrids deliver the goods, i.e. get the ball from point A to point B every time, why change anything?

comment_142859

Not the latest, however I have the Mizubo UX 2s and enjoy them.

My two favorite JDM utilities are the TourStage X-UT and the G-Field GFT's.

Non-JDM would be the old TRC models by Sonartec.

For me personally...

JDM:

1. Tourstage X-UT

2. Srixon 2007 AD Hybrid

3. Royal Collection TD+

USDM:

1. Taylormade 2007 Rescue TP

2. Adams Idea Pro

3. Bridgestone J33 Utility

There are so many amazing utilities out there right now. It's funny you posted this as Golf Classic Magazine just did a shootout called your 200 yard club including a host of FW's and utilities. The best ranking hybrids in Japan have long been:

Royal Collection Td+

Tourstage X-UT

Srixon AD Hybrids

But as many people here have said, and what I agree with is how the club matches your personal preference for shape and setup. there are those like the Td+ and X-UT that are more iron like hybrids and then the G-Field and ViQ and ONOFF that are more wood like profile.

My personal favs are the G-field GFT UT, XXIO Utility and I'm very curious to try the new JPX utility.

Depends on what you are looking for: forgiveness vs iron like ability...I look at ability to play from the rough without losing distance (much) or direction... and the ability to hit it a consistent distance with tight dispersion.

Top 3 - Royal collection Td+ / or the TD

G field GFT

X-UT (this one requires very good ball striking skills, but rewards with piercing ball flight and more workability)

i have tried the xut, Rcs ,gft and some on jdm like cobra, titty, ping, etc etc. for me one of the ost important aspects of any utility is the way it addresses and the way it catches my eye. most of the ones ive tried looked so awkward and unappealing.

my vote has to go with the gft. not only is it the cleanest looking but its shape is downright awesome. inspires confidence in me so ive opted for this and have never regretted it. these have been the only constants in my bag since ive decided to go jdm. give it a shot

Lots of great advice here...

I haven't tried the G-fields, but I can vouch for the Tourstage X-UT and Srixon AD if you are after a smaller hybrid.

For a more 'wood-like' one, the XXIO's and ViQ utilities are nice, and I'm going to try and do some testing with the Mizuno JPX as well.

For USDM, I have limited experience, but I think the Adams Pro Series hybrids are quite solid, if a little lacking in the looks department (XXIO, as discussed, I don't know what they were thinking with the two-tone top).

Thanks to everyone who replied! I don't think I'm a good enough ball striker for the X-UT. I'd like to try the G-Field hybrid but I have no idea where to get them... I've heard that Adams Pro Series are very good too. How do they compare? Anyone try the Mizuno JPX hybrid?

Thanks!

The JPX looks very interesting... I'm wanting to try one very soon....

Reminds me of the hibore scoop out crown... (though I've never tried that either)...

and the V sole is like the RC's and ONOFF's

I've purchased and settled on the X-UT #4 and X-UT #2 to replace the 4,3 irons.

I wouldn't call myself a very good ball striker but have no problems using these. They do however give you a very low launch, very piercing, and very solid. This is great off the tee in windy conditions. These give me a fade/push, very confident in taking out one side of the fairway. I've even taken out my Epon 3w.

That Mizuno looks interesting but I can't get use to that hi-bore style crown, it looks like someone stepped onto my driver accidently.

WOW! this says alot about the X-ut. glad you are having great success iwth this club. i loved mine as well but couldnt get used to the shape. other than that its a fantastic and stellar performer.

My all time favourite is VIQ, easy to hit, very consistent. However, recently I tried an utility made by "Head", yes it's 'Head" the tennis racquet maker. The utility is made in japan, super easy to hit & lovely feel. I'm tempted but it's quite expensive.

C, you can't miss them. The shaft is made from ski pole and the face is hi-cor cat gut instead of maranging steel. :tsg_smiley_bulb:

Thanks again for all the great suggestions and replies!

Jackson, I may have to try the X-UT.

Anyone have any idea of where I can get a G-Field Hybrid?

Thanks,
