Richmond Golfer
The face insert looks great, but it is expensive at $472 extra. Does it affect play and feel much and if so, how? Looks like most putters from the pics do not have this option.

Looks like most putters from the pics do not have this option. The insert is a very new option only created a few months ago based on a request from TSG members here to replicate a G-Field Premium Zone type of insert. The reason for it's cost is that Sasaya-san hand cuts every one, grooves them, machines them and finishes them. It's a very detailed precise process to create the best feel and roll. Those who have the insert will tell you how amazing the feel is and how well it supposedly rolls the ball. It's definitely a premium upgrade and will give a different feel than just the milled face. I'm not so much an insert guy so I have no problems with the standard Gold's putter made the way I like it.

Duffer19
Go cheap and try to find a new or used G Field Premium (for about $200) to try it out first.
idrive
Go cheap and try to find a new or used G Field Premium (for about $200) to try it out first. This is a good suggestion... but the feel with the Golds is much better IMO. The Golds sits/sets up much better also. It would help in seeing the difference on how the ball rolls with this type of insert. This particular insert simply allows you to roll the ball better. I am living proof that it works. I like to use my Putter if I am just off the green on fairly short grass. By moving the ball slightly forward in my stance this combo picks the ball up and gives an excellent roll even though you are rolling it on longer grass to begin with. I've not seen anyone re-sell this combo once they get their hands on it.

Thanks in advance.
