EdChoi
I looked at gocchin (thanks for posting btw) driver shootout and the fourteen did very well. The new epon 460 (not the EMB) seems similar to the past epon which look really nice. How does one decide which one to go with? I'll most likely put an altus or whiteboard in, depending on what the driver needs. I'm really happy with my current driver setup, but want to try a quality jdm offering to compare it with and possibly replace. Sorry for all the new jdm quesions, thanks for all the help! Duffer19
If you are ok with the extra long stock shaft of the 707, by all mean try the Fourteen. But if you start shafting with a shorter 45" ungrade, the distance performance might not be as noticeable if at all. I have the Epon 460 and the 606 and both performs similarly. siteseer2
Fourteen makes great irons, and utility's. I have not been impressed with their drivers. Epon makes the best driver on the market, IMHO. Foregiving, very solid, and customizable. It will be very similiiar to the Superquad, but softer more solid feel, spin a bit more, and slightly more foregiving. Give it a try, and forget Fourteen drivers. +TourSpecGolfer
I agree, get an Epon that is built to your specs, perhaps now is even a good time to try the new ali'islei Diamana shaft or the new Tour AD, or Axiv X. I too am not impressed by most of Fourteen's drivers.
wmclarenf1
I have an Epon with Whiteboard 63. Very good.
EdChoi
thanks for the replies so far, the new diamana seems interesting, any info on it? is it supposed to play like a blueboard? i noticed its torque stats are higher than the rest of the diamana line, 3.9 (vs 2.8 for regular diamanas) I get pretty ideal launch numbers with my current setup 10.5 loft, 1 degree open, altus stiff tipped 1/2" Also is the new epon shallower than the old one? High spin is the thing I need to be careful of, so I was thinking of whiteboard (its great in my 3 wood) but am open to options. gocchin
There are quite a few threads on the new Epon EMB driver and as they all state, they look nothing alike as their designs are very different. The EMB is quite a bit shallower and longer heel to toe and is a high MOI driver and looks that way. The 460 is traditional shaped and deep faced. The EMB will be very forgiving and straight. Also not to worry about the torque numbers for the ali'islei, they are higher but the technology is better and they are getting very good feedback in Japan for performance. Ed, what exactly are you looking for in a driver. What's your handicap and swing speed?

Ed, what exactly are you looking for in a driver. What's your handicap and swing speed? When i was asking about the differences between new and old one, i meant the epon 460 with red sole accents vs epon z460? not too interested in the emb although it looks great. the "new" one i was looking at was this one I quit golf for about a month due to overcomplicating my golf game, back on track, hc is officially now a 12.2 index, my swingspeed for my driver can go anywhere from 95 to north of 105. With my superquad setup, it has been great, except for one thing. Obviously first the swing solves all, but aside from that, strikes heel side on my driver end up spinning so much. I am looking for a particular driver which has more of a hotspot towards the heel than anything else. With looking at JDM drivers, I am definitely interested in feel, want to enjoy the game not so much be the best out there you know? ajaykkr
the old epon and the new one are essentially the same. I will strongly advocate the Epon 460, (for me the roddio WA shaft works best).... and i have tried the fourteen.... very ordinary... gocchin
Oh sorry Ed when you said old and new I automatically assumed the EMB (^_^). Yes the new and old as AJ said are exactly the same except for graphics. It was rebranded for the global market. If you do want feel the the Epon 460 is tops. However you said you miss towards the heel, interesting enough, that usually calls for a more shallow, longer heel to toe MOI type driver which minimizes distance loss and spin on off center hits towards the heel and toe as CG is spread out deeper and flatter. idrive
I have played most drivers... except the Fourteen. With the right shaft you can't go wrong with the Epon Driver. I was killing it today... the colder temps (50*) didn't seem to bother it at all...
