dansun9
I ordered the stock shaft for the EMB which is a Tour AD in stiff. Im wondering if I made the right choice?? I don't know my SS for driver but my 3 wood is a sonartec np-99 and my SS is 90-94 with a carry of 215-225. Should I have gotten the SR instead of Stiff?? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks
fenice_69
For reference, my swing speed with my 3-wood is 105. I swing my driver approx. 112 comfortably. I play a soft X in both my driver and 3-wood. Assuming that you swing in the 97-102 range with your driver (approx. 7 mph faster) you should be playing an SR. However, desired stiffness is going to be a function not only of your swing speed, but also the aggressiveness of your transition, th lag in your swing, and whether you are attempting to maximize accuracy or distance (the softer the shaft the harder it is to control; however, should be longer on solid contact). You also want to pay attention to your launch characteristics (e.g. launch angle, back spin, ball speed, etc.). I would suggest getting fit into a shaft flex profile before buying another shaft blind. Having said that, and based solely on the information you provided I would suggest that a straight 'S' is too stiff. My .02. gocchin
fenice is right on the money, flex is no longer just based on swing speed but your swing type. A flex too soft is not good for aggressive hard hitters with quick tempos and fast transition/wrist lag but for smooth swingers, a softer flex is much less detrimental. That said, I'm guessing you swing over 100 with the driver and based on that you are "probably" okay with an S. The feedback on the stock shaft has actually been very good. Good kick, good feel. The EMB shafts may play a touch softer too because of their increased length (46" standard).
jacksonlui
perhaps it might help if someone measured the cpm (ungripped) with a 5 inch clamp. that way we can always compare apples to apples.
bogeydog
As I mentione din my other post, I have the same setup and it CPM'd at 230. You should be fine with the S flex. perhaps it might help if someone measured the cpm (ungripped) with a 5 inch clamp. that way we can always compare apples to apples.
