Best hybrid shafts?

I know that it would be easier to:

A) Put in a Tour AD UT-85 or B) wait for the new Diamana Thump hybrid shafts... but there is no challenge in doing that.

Before I go that route though, ss there anything else out there that people have been impressed with? Smooth feel, mid bend, and easy to get some height WITHOUT balooning, and 80~90 g would be great!

I would love to tell you that there is but having just put in UT-95 in my X-UT, I really don't believe there's a better shaft. IMO. I also have the UT-85 in a G-Field #3 utility that I still put in play from time to time. I'm so impressed with these shafts, especially the UT-95. Nothing else that I've used even comes close. Before the UT-95 the NSPRO Utility was in there and while it performed very well, the UT-95 was just so much better. Tight dispersion, boring flight and oh so smooth. It'll take hard swings as well as smooth, controlled swings.

In the past I've also used the Fujikura Speeder 904HB utility shaft and that was a fine shaft in its day as well, but the UT beats it easily as well.

I'd say if you haven't been impressed with the UT for your swing, wait for the new Diamana as I'm sure it'll be a quality shaft worthing of giving it a go.

I have used the ut-85 and 95 x in my hybrid (tourstage x-ut 19*) with success, but recently switched to a fujikura rombax prototype. I think it is the same shaft as the 8D07HB listed on the fujikura website. If not it is very close. It launches lower than the graphite design shafts, and also produces lower spin. I struggle with high spinny shots with my hybrid, and the fuji shaft has all but eliminated this. I guess it depends what you are looking for in a shaft. It could be that the GD shafts fit you very well and you don't need to change, but what fun would that be :tsg_smiley_crazy:

Blader-X,

I have never hit a better utility shaft than the UT-85. I've tried some Fuji's in the past, but I always liked the GD UT series a bit better.

I don't have the UT-85 in the hybrid in question at the moment, so it will be somewhat fun but lacking in surprise as I already know what to expect - all of the wonderful characteristics that Blader-X mentioned!

So true. I once had, in fact its in the closet now, but I had a Diamana blue board 83x in a Sonartec TRC. Although it had a good flight to it, it had major spin. In fact everytime I hit it, especially to soft greens it stayed right where it hit. It was unreal.

I have a matrix ozik altus in one of my hybrids and a ut-85 in the other. Both are really nice. Both X-flex. Matrix is extremely straight. UT is smother for sure. Can't go wrong with either. I'd probably recommend the UT for the smoother swinger.

Aldila NV 85 is the number one on tour. Good doesn't always have to mean the most expensive. Just a thought

Quoted for truth!

I don't think the NV is a bad shaft, but I've never gotten along with it in the driver, so I haven't looked at it for a hybrid. On the other hand, I've had great luck with some of Graphite Design's other shafts, hence the interest in the Tour AD UT's. However, you're mentioning bargains got me to thinking about one of XXIO's old clubs set up with an IROD... XXIO, are you still playing an IROD in any of your hybrids?

I see a lot of praise for the UT-85 in the various threads. What type of swing fits this shaft? Any feedback on the lighter UT-65?

i have the ut-65 and ut85. i love the feel of both but the edge goes to the ut-85. i can really go for it and shaft stability is unbeleivable. with the ut-65 it was a bit light for me . cant go wrong with either one.

I actually play the UT-55 in my hybrids. Amazing shaft and the perfect match for my irons which use AD-65. Nice feel, stable trajectory and control.
