idrive
Not sure if this has been brought up before... I looking for opinions about what you think is the best Graphite Iron Shafts available. I can honestly say I didn't think I would EVER consider graphite shafts for my Irons, but.. I just recently bought a set of (very) used irons with graphite shafts to practice with. I have had a nagging wrist injury and have heard that graphite shafts are easier on the joints than steel. After 2 practice sessions I'm starting to believe this is true. BUT, what I'm noticing is that my ball is carrying farther... much farther than with the steel shafts and the feel is not all that bad. My SS with the Driver is 100-to 105 mph. I don't swing aggressively with the Irons. I like a heavier than lighter feel. I have a Tourstage wedge with a Axiv 759M shaft that I am not all that impressed with that further delayed my thoughts about Graphite Iron shafts. Perhaps it would be better in the irons where the swing is more consistent rather than a variable swing depending on distance? What would be the best shaft??? Thanks guys... xchangmanx
I'm currently in the process of changin to Graphite for less shock and more yards. IE: I was skeptical till I hit my friends mizuno mp 60s w/tour ad 85s in them. OMG 3 iron off the tee went for a good 230 in the air and it was kind of a toed mis**t.... w/very little shock!!! Next day started seriously looking at the graphite shafts avaliable. =)
froggy10
Take the best of both worlds ... steel with graphite. Playing the AeroTech i110 and can honestly say these are the best iron shafts I've played. Tested quite a few before going with these. Good luck. gocchin
Since you want more weight, three good choices to consider are: Tour AD AD-95 (99 grams) AD-105 (107g) AD-115 (115g) Axiv 959M (89-110 grams) ascending weight Roddio I-10 (105 grams) These will all perform as good as steel in my opinion with better feel, shock absorption and distance. As you know I'm one of the ones who have converted to graphite in irons and not going back... there are a few of those here. (^_^) I also find that the graphite especially makes a big impact in long-mid irons, as they get shorter they naturally lose some of the feel which is maybe why the 759 in a wedge felt like nothing special to you. You should try and hit some of Chris' irons shafted with graphite as a test.
bogeydog
Drive I am a fan of graphite. I was the first here to have the Roddio I10s stiff installed. They are 105g shafts. Feel was great, distance very long. At first I was super happy, but I noticed a few things in my set. Primarily distance control became an issue. Up to a 15 yard difference. That was too much for me. I think they also played soft but that was probably because I play a shorter iron length and added head weight to get swing weight. Can't comment on the other brands but I am intrigued by the GD 115g as a starting point. With my new KB Tours the distance and accuracy are crazy and they feel really good. I think this is a shaft you can play one half to a full flex soft and get feel and maintain dispersion accuracy. Spoon
jeff i myself went through the same journey and discovered the wonderful world of graphite. it was totally by accident when i used it on my wedges and i loved the feel. especially with the shock absorption. so i changed my whole set to graphite and have used for months. i have the axiv 758 and the tour ad series. i love both but i give the edge to the axiv in terms of performance yet give the tour ads the thumbs up in the feel department. you cant go wrong with either. good luck

T has obviously mentioned the best of the best. I settled on the Roddios, and in a decade of playing graphite iron shafts, I have to say these are as good as it gets. Although I haven't tried the new AD 105 or Diamanas. T, what about the Diamana Thump irons in S-flex? The Axiv's aren't bad, but the demos I tried just didn't feel that good, to me. More experience with them might change my mind. The 759 in a wedge is just too light for someone with you current specs, so don't worry about that feeling a bit off. Try something with the heaver Tour AD, the Roddio I-10, or the new Diamana and I think you will be really impressed. Slightly off topic; T, is Chris getting some demo clubs with a few different shafts built up?
gocchin
The Diamana's are definitely an option. I forgot to recommend them since they are not out till next month. Chris has I-10's in Miura MB-5003's right now... a lethal combo!!
idrive
Chris has I-10's in Miura MB-5003's right now... a lethal combo!! Chris offered them to me to demo while he was gone to Japan. I should have taken him up on his offer.... Thanks for the replies everyone. I didn't realize how popular graphite shafts had become. I think I'm going to try and demo a couple of the shafts that Chris has. Being in the same town with the Tourspecgolf HQ is going to be a great advantage trying to compare and finally pick out the best Graphite Shafts for me. I like to see people finding cool new gear, and once you've got the right shaft, it is probably the last time I will ever be able to give you any advice . BTW, you aren't moving to Hawaii are you?!?!
