bogeydog
In the past few days I played golf in Vegas with a few friends of mine. After an initial delay getting out there and started, we played the following courses. Aside from the courses, I have included info about a few of the clubs sold here at TSG. I wanted to meet Chris (TSG) and Jeff (idrive) out there, but it just didn't work out. I will return this fall. Shadow Creek For those that don't know, SC was developed by Steve Wynn, essentially the modern day creator of Vegas. He built it to be an ultra exclusive course to service the high rollers. It is estimated that he spent upward of 65M to build the course. Now the course is owned by the MGM chain and you must be a guest of a MGM resort to play. $500 gets you a limo ride, free drinks, etc., shoes if you need them, caddy and a locker. I used George Clooneys locker. You see no one else on the course. They estimate only about 20 players play each day. You only see the hole you are playing. Considering this course is in the desert, that is quite a feat. You cannot believe the oasis of trees, plants, animals here. It is its own eco system. The golf is really good, the fairways perfect and the greens pretty good. The rough was low and dry due to the time of year. The course plays fair and looks tighter than it is. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. I found the proshop super expensive. Regular logo shirts were $175 plus. Reflection Bay I have played here before. Its a Nicklaus course. Very good layout, super fast greens, nice conditions. You can get into trouble on this course. Bring a game with you. The staff was so-so. The design and conditions bring me back. Not as nice as Shadow Creek. The Falls Next to Reflection Bay. A Weiskop course. Front nine is tight and rather flat. Winds through small home development. The greens were very fast. When you get to #7 life changes. It gets very hilly and fun. The views are great. #13 is awesome. Literally a 150 foot drop between tee and fairway. The back nien saves this course. I would play the back twice. Careful, the back nine slows the pace of play. Great conditions here. Wolf Creek I read about this course, located 90 miles from Vegas in Mesquite, NV. See the website golfwolfcreek.com. It is exactly as they say. I loved it. Nothing I have ever seen or played. Super elevations changes, crazy yet incredible design. Conditions of fairways and rough was incredible. Sand was kinda hard. Greens were designed well, but they were slow and recovering from aeration about 10 days earlier. Let me tell you that every angle on the course is a post card. Not a single tree found, but more than enough design to require precise shots. All I can say is that this course is unlike any other and worth the trip or a stay to play a few times. I can remember most of the holes here, but don't remember the same for the other course. I will return. Pace of play was slow though. Play here and you will understand why. CLUBS I have written vast reviews of my clubs and only have better and better things to say. But I feel I need to add more about the Epon EMB driver and the AF-901s. As an experiment, I installed teh new Fubuki shaft in the EMB and removed the stock GD Tour AD for EMB stiff flex. That lasted one day and I switched back. The Fubuki didn't perform in the EMB. The GD shaft just plain rocks. Not one person, and I played with at least 8 different people, ever out drove me. I was dead down the middle and at least 15 yards further, sometimes 60. Everyone was amazed that this 5'-3" guys could hit so well. I cannot believe that any combo will do better for me than this. I can't see trying the 101 driver. What else can I say? The AF-901s also have me laughing. I have the 19, 22 and 25 degrees with the Mach Line SR flex graphite shafts. So damn easy to hit and honestly have changes my 180 - 230 yard game. They saved me at least 4 strokes a round. My only complaint is that the Mach Line shaft finish isn't very durable. They seem to mark easily. But that will due of they perform this well. My Yamaha irons also performed, but I have discussed that before. My Chikara wedges were ok, but the jury is still out. The spin is great, but I am still working on the sole design. Go play Wolf Creek! WOLF CREEK PICS Edited April 5, 2008 by bogeydog
gocchin
Great stuff as always B. When people ask me about the EMB, I always recommend the stock shaft. There are many customers who are not part of this forum so they don't know what great feedback the stock shaft is getting and they email me dismissing it immediately. I always try and talk them into trying it but they just can't believe a stock shaft performs that well!

quik022
Thanks for the great review! I'm going to vegas in late may for a bachelor's party. We have a tee time set for wolf creek, but some people are hesitant to drive an hour away, and suggested courses like bears best/primm. But after this review, sounds like wolf creek is worth the drive!

K2_2
Bogey, That was a fantastic review, cheers! I haven't taken the time to stop in Vegas yet, but the golf sounds like it could make it all worthwhile, Wolf Creek for the play and Shadow Creek if I have a reasonable night in the casino. Cheers

bogeydog
Thanks for the beautiful pics Bogey!! Thats my kinda golf course!!!(no trees) Don't let no trees fool you. Each shot needs to be placed. There are very few flat lies. Not one shot is made from the same elevation to the same elevation. Bring a game that allows you to hit to elevated greens and from elevated tees.

landshark
too bad jeff(idrive) couldn't hook up with you. i was just there and played last thursday with jeff at boulder creek. had a great time. jeff really hits the ball well. i think he's added 25 yards to his drives with that emb driver he has. i drove out to shadow creek just to see if i could take a peek inside. they wouldn't allow it. said i had to be brought by limo to get in and be guest of mgm, etc. too bad. i'm always saying i'm going to get to mesquite and play wolf creek. next time for sure.
