luting_chen
Hi all, This is my first time posting. I'm thinking about getting a new JDM FW to replace my 5yr old FW. Do you have any recommendation? I'm not so familiar with JDM brands but have been hearing only good things about them. Looking for workability and not really game improvement clubs. Anything good from 2008? :) Any suggestion would be great :) Thank you all in advance... KC

If you like a mid sized workable FW with a square face, you can consider the Epon AF-201, Yamaha iFF Tour or PRGR M3 Hit Tour. If you want more compact you can look at the Royal Collection Pro TP or X-Drive. For FW's a little on the larger side you can check out Fourteen's new SF308 or PRGR's regular M3 Hit. The Epon AF-201 is a big standout if you like a deep face coupled with wonderful feel. It also gives you am lot of shaft options. The M3 Hit Tour is more shallow faced. There are definitely a LOT of options.
luting_chen
Hi gocchin, Thanks for the fast reply :) I'm currently using an old Callaway ERC (bought back in 2001) and it has a fairly small head. The only thing I don't like about it is that it has fairly high face height. I'm looking for something w/ mid-low face height. Yup, I've been browsing this website for FW for a while, and there are just way too many selection to choose from... lol... I just wish there is 1 FW that outstands all others to make my life easier... haha KC

Duffer19
Just reading through the 2007 Golf Style Magazine on WITB of top amateurs in Japan, X drive, Srixon, Fourteen, RC, V Steel, R7 with just a few Mizuno and PRGR were among the popular brands. The X Drive FW seems to be the most used among good players. I personally play Epon, Fourteen and J spec V-Steel FWs, all with upgrade shafts. Head feel wise, I would rank V-Steel to be the best. luting_chen
Wow... thanks for all the input... I think I have narrowed it down to 2 clubs... TM V-Steel Epon AF-201 Love their looks :) Do you know if I can find any review on them? Also, what about Honma 812 or 913 FW? and the PRGR EGG? Are they any good? Been hearing about them quite a bit lately. Thanks again :) KC Edited May 15, 2008 by luting_chen

It just seems odd that if you are considering the Honma (Beres?) 8 and 9 series and at the same time, you would also considering the EGG. Yeah b/c I'm not so familiar with these brands/clubs... so just want to hear opinions on them :) I really like the look for honma 9 series... but am not sure if that's something for me... never seen all these clubs in person, and the only way to find out is through asking people... The only reason asking for egg is b/c it's new from prgr~~ just out of curiousity :)
gocchin
KC, the Honma 9 series is their professional model. It is for the low handicapper. The PRGR EGG series is made for mid to high handicappers looking for ease of use and forgiveness. There are definitely lots and lots of options and good ones. I think you need to narrow down whether you want shallow or deep faced... it does seem like you are looking at more compact or mid compact sized heads (except the EGG which is large). The Yamaha and Epon are mid-compacts with deep faces The PRGR Tour is mid compact with shallow face The new v-steel is compact with medium face
