JDM confusion EPON MIURA

Recommended Posts

HI

I,m new to the sight but i,ve known about the quality forgings of Japan for some time now.

I have currently been looking at a set of new irons here in the UK.

MY current likings are as follows

Miura CB202 3-6 iron/ blades 7-pw

And

Epon AF501 3-6 iron/AF301 7-pw

The thing that is holding me back is that they are double what you guys in the states are paying?

Why are they so expensive here and is there any other options available to me?

Save yourself the headache and just get it from TSG. You are paying in dollars instead of Euro or Pounds, also even if they did charge you in dollars we will still beat that price.

Another thing worth noting is the product we sell was manufactured for intended sales in Japan while stuff built for other countries many times isn't forged in Japan.

That sounds reasonable.do you know if they would ship the heads only with the nice ferrels of course (epon).

I would like to get the shafts suited my swing using a launch monitor.

Thing is though without actually seeing the heads in the flesh its going to be a tough call between the 2 different companies.

What is the difference in quality between the two companies.

Do they both perform on the same level?

Im a solid ball striker, but not a long hitter.my iron play is key to my scoring.

thanks

One good thing about forum members here is that they (I myself included) own and play multiple sets of clubs. I have the Miura CB201 and the Epon 501 and 301. You can and should take advantage of user experiences here, particularly Epon owners with varies shafts combo. I think Miura you can buy heads only but all Epon irons are all built in Japan by Epon. I play the Epon 501 and Miura cb201 with nspro 850 and the 301 with the Shimada AC10.

I dealt with Golfcraft in Bangkok - and they were perfectly happy to get heads only from Japan (custom ordered in matt black finish, no paintfill) and then fit them in Bangkok with shafts I supplied.

Would certainly make shipping and customs hassles in UK less likely with heads only....

HI Duffer

Thanks for the input.

So Epon come with shimada shafts which ive never heard of although being japanese im sure they will be of the best quality.

Due to my lack of knoledge regarding JDM clubs im really not sure which ones to go for.

I must admit my primary goal was to get a set of Miuras as i only knew about them and have been admiring them for some time.

Epons seem more Pretty to look at but do they play as well as the miuras

If anybody wants to share their opinions on either of these club makers or specific iron set it would be a great help.

Thanks

I started out with the same goal to get the Miura's but ended up with Vega. However, I have started increasing the number of Epon clubs in my bag. I have the AF 101, AF 201 and the 208KGX wedges. I have also considered getting the 301's but I hit the Vega's very well and it would be a mistake to change. I am also waiting for Epon to bring out their blades later this year.

From the feedback on the 208 wedges I would say my Vega irons feel softer (same for Miura) but the Epon wedges have many other advantages ie I can hit them much lower and the feel is still great. If I was to choose between Miura and Epon, Epon would win,the quality is outstanding.

Thanks coops !!! whats all this about clubs being forged in different countries. japanese clubs being forged in china??

and international ones in the endo factory.......surely this is untrue!!!

Golf37 thanks for the input!

I,m also looking to upgrade my wedges to something a little more exotic.

chakara production model

yuyuri gekku cnc

epon 208 kxg

what i know so far about this wedges

chikara "i know nothing about these other than they are beautiful"

epon "super soft spins up nice but not over aggressive"

yururi cnc gekko "not as soft as epon but spins the ball like, no other peeling the cover of the ball"

any input ?

Thanks

Yururi is softer than the Epon and yes it takes the cover off the ball but if you hit a couple of hundred range balls the club calms down.

I find the Epon not quite as soft but a much better club, easier to control the spin and flight

Hope this helps

Golf37 HOW DARE YOU!!!! Range balls hehe not on my clubs!!!

I live right in between a 9 hole golf course and an 18 hole course, both are parkland courses and hold a little to much water for my liking.

But i have the option to just pop over there and work on things, its just unplayable in the worst of the winter months.

IM sure ive read that the gekko cnc wedges are made of 25c and the epons softer 20c or im i getting things mixed up?

Thanks

I am sure you are right but the yuyuri feel softer. Be perpared to lose a ball each time you hit them unless you hit at least 200 "practice"/ range balls

Do the Epon have the face milled like the yururi?

I,ve only seen a picture and it wasnt that clear

Also do the different coloured coatings on the Epons provide different feeling or spin levels?

which of the two (Gekko,Epon)would you say is the provides the most ability to hit various dirfferent shots

I.e knockdown punches and flopshots etc.

sorry about all the questions but i need the input.

Thanks

All Epon accounts can get the heads only for assembly they just can't sell it heads only direct to the customer.

TSG has custom finish options. Every finish epon offers can be done in any of their clubs we can also do laser engraving.

So if you have a clubmaker in your area you would like to give access to the Epon brand just have them contact the proper authority at www.eponforged.com to setup their account.

This way your local store can bring in demos for you to view or try as well as order heads only for your custom fitting.

In regards to manufacturing, Epon is vastly superior but Miura is traditional old school validated design. I play Miura blades and Epon CB's + everything else.

If your a solid ball striker, hands down Epon 301 w/1150gh tours. You won't be disappointed.

Re Wedges

I also own many wedges, I personally like the epon KGX wedge the most w/1150gh tour, and the Tour sieda w/Black golds.

Epon IMO is superior to all other brands. Again this is just my opinon.

A very timely topic.

I'm looking to replace by Tourstage z101 after 5years and these Epon 3 and 5 series looks good.

Can anyone tell me which Epon model will have indentical size to the Z101s? The Eppon 501 looks like the Tourstage Z201s but have stronger lofts.

Also, how do the feel compare to the Tourstage.

The 301's are the closest to the Z101's very similar feel , the 501's different feel, sound and are more forgiving .
