Fujikura Rombax Iron Shafts

Anyone have experience with the Fujikura Rombax irons shafts...specifically the 9E05 and 115i?

I do not see the 115i on the Fujikura Japan website, is this a U.S. release only?

TBone, I have been waiting for this to pop up on the Fujikura Japan site, but no such luck as of yet. I will hazard a guess... this shaft is probably very closely related to the REAX 115 that Fujikura produced for the Taylor Made R7-TP. Specs look similar although 115i might have a slightly higher bend point.

From memory the 115 g REAX by Fuji was a pretty nice shaft - very smooth, great at absorbing vibration in comparison to steel, and as I spent some time with practicing in both a head and cross-wind, my impression was that it didn't baloon or add excessive spin to the ball.

I have the 9E05s in a set of Titleist AP2s. I only have a few rounds in with the set, but my initial impressions are that the shaft is very stable with no more dispersion that a steel shaft such as NS PRO 950 I have had in different iron sets. I haven't tried the AP2s with steel, so I don't can't compare if there is any difference in feel or trajectory, although my gut feel is that they produce a little higher ball flight than steel shafts would, but haven't had any problem with balloning.

So far, I am really liking 9E05 shaft and it is the first graphite iron shaft I have really liked.

I will report more after the honeymoon period is over.

Randy,

Thanks for the initial feedback! You mention that it's the first graphite iron shaft that you really like....have you hit any of the GD Tour AD's and if so, any comparison with the 9E05?

I will be putting graphite in my next set. Under consideration are the Fujikura's and GD Tour AD's.....also looking at Axiv and the Diamana Thumps as outside choices. Any other choices?

I tried the AD 75 in a set of Callaway x-tours and they seemed really nice, but a little to light for me. I have also tried a couple of Ping and Callaway graphite shafts and wasn't that impressed. The 9E05 is the only graphite shaft that I have tried that might take me away from steel shafts, but may try a heavier AD shaft and see how it works out.

Hi Tbone, I only hit the Fuji in an R7-TP so any comparison to the Roddios (which I use in the OnOff Plus) would be vague at best. For me, I like the feeling of the Roddios more and they are very consistant shaft to shaft. The Fuji's may be as well, but in the past I have noticed a difference in feel between Fuji's 'home model's' like the 9E05 that is sold in Japan and some of their US tailored products.

The heavier AD series are also very nice - if I was not playing the Roddios I would probably be using the AD-95 or Tour AD Pro. Just a note on the AD-Pro, I really like them, but one of the members here (BigBen?) had some issues with them playing way to soft. Drop him a PM if you get a chance.

I would like to try the Thump in a nice set of irons but I haven't gotten around to it yet. The Roddio-OnOff Plus is working quite well for me so I have had little motivation to change.

Had a chance to hit the RE*AX 115 yesterday in the TM R7TP. Not quite the feel that I'm looking for...seemed a bit "hollow" feeling to me, difficult to describe. I hit it along with the UST Rv2 115....different heads. No issues with the performance of the RE*AX 115, good ball flight, no excessive spin. I preferred the feel of the UST, but the ball flight seemed to baloon, a lot of spin.

The RE*AX 115, though similar, may be a completely different shaft than the Fujikura 115i, so difficult to draw any conclusions.

Looking for a graphite shaft that is a bit stiffer in the tip (less spin), perhaps a bit softer in the butt area (enhance feel). Any ideas?

From what I have read and 'heard' while in Japan - ie a quick chat in a shop I visited - the Diamana Thump should be reasonably firm in the tip providing less spin than some other graphite irons. However, I don't know the bend profile so I can't comment about the degree of softness on the other end.

Can anyone provide information as to the bend profile of the Diamana Thump iron shaft?

I think we determined that it's tip is firm, looking for more details on the butt and mid section. I looked at the Mitsubishi website (the overview is in Japanese and can't find any other details on the site). Seen a few blogs, but again, in Japanese and the translations were not very good.

Any help or insights would be greatly appreciated!
