changing loft of AF-901

Hi,

I am thinking about getting my AF-901 from 22 to 20, play more like 3 iron substitute for my current 4-PW set up. I think my 4 iron is around 23 loft.

What other changes may I expect other than the loft? bounce maybe?

Would it do any harm to the club?

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks!

Have you hit the 4 iron and the 901 side by side to compare the distance between the two?

I have found that you can have a "regular" 4 iron and a hybrid of the same loft and the hybrid generally carries farther. The shaft can also be a contributing factor.

But to answer your question, you will decrease the bounce 2* and possibly change the playability of the club. Changing the lie of a club is one thing, changing the loft is another. I would consult you club builder for his opinion as well. I think most people would tell you you won't notice a difference. Personally I wouldn't do it unless you felt like this club just had to much bounce.

Anyone else??

I changed the loft and lie on my AF901's and the result has been great. The flatter lie helps me make better more center contact while the increased loft cut down on the distance, I wanted less distance on purpose.

I think I will check the lie angle first and maybe try 1 degree strong. I was looking to have 901 to be 200+ distance club and I feel that it isn't quite 200 distance club yet.

By the way, I originally had 901 with original graphite shaft and didn't work out.

Then, I have tried NSPRO 850, 950 and finally found my gamer with 1150.

I think 901 is more of an iron type than hybrid and I think heavier shaft works better for my swing.

I will be ordering a 901 19' with KB tour 5.5 for a friend of mine and can't wait to try them out.

Great info.

Thanks guys.

Club builder here and there is no problem with delofting your 901. In fact, that is what is nice about forged clubs and the their softer metal, easy to bend. 20* is a good number for a 3 iron rescue/hybird club. Hey, bend and if you do not like it, bend it back-experiment until you get what feels the best and goes the distance you are looking for.

Happy New Year!!!
