Which shaft spins the least?

Hello I will be purchasing a shaft in the near future and would like some suggestions before I make my decision. Of these three shafts, GD EV-7x, GD MD-7x, and Fuji 7F09x, which will be the lowest spin. The GD EV series seems to be the hot new shaft, and I know the MD has received great reviews on this sight and others, but how do they compare spin wise to one another and the Fuji F series. It seems the F series doesn't get talked about very much. I have to admit I like it as much for the graphics as the playing characteristics. It reminds me of a blend of 60's pop art and industrial 80's neon. It does however fit my profile at the the weight and flex i'm interested in. Any information that will aid on my decision making process will be greatly appreciated.

How do they compare to low spin benchmark shafts - Matrix F7M2 or Diamana Whiteboard?

Does Roddio have anything new and interesting in the pipeline? I wasn't a fan of the initial offering, but always thought they had great potential with the 5 weave wrap.

Based on testing (but by GD US) the EV is very close to the soon to be released in the US YSQ ST (Stiff Tip).

I have given the EV 7 stiff a good run. It did nothing great for me. Maybe it was the Fourteen 909 head, it was very disappointing. I actually preferred the YSQ (but tipped 1/2").

Thanks for sharing that info. I have heard the MD is more stable at higher swingspeeds. Don't know if this is completely true as it seems many JPGA players currently play the ev. Maybe it is sensitive to tipping.

I think I'm leaning towards the MD series unless someone has something stellar to say about the Rombax F. Ha anyone played the Rombax F?

I know the MD series has been getting a lot of attention on the PGA recently.

The new EV spins less than the MD and kicks quite hard. Feedback has been very positive in Japan. xchangman gave brief feedback in another thread here that with a new X-Drive it spun less and kicked hard for him as well. Magazines are really impressed with the EV Rombax F and Kai'li as a new generation of performance and control shafts.

Ryo has been playing the EV since the end of last season and likes it due to its big carry.

Indeed, I've been on the LM w/EV6 stiff in the 701G and EV7 stiff in 901 both 9.5*. Both kicked harder than the MD 7, and indeed really shines at higher ss.

Both EV6 and EV7 on Xdrives drivers provided me w/low RPM and awesome kick in the impact area. I had a harder time hitting the 701g than the 901(typical over top hook on misses)

701G w/EV 6 provided so much kick that I had trouble keeping it straight. 20+yrd draw on my normal 5 yard draw shot. Ball flight was med high w/tons of roll. 701g w/the EV6 is the longest driver I've ever hit period, I think its a perfect match for distance seekers who don't have worry about control.

I have not hit the Rombax F, nor the Diamana so I can't compare to it.

AVG spin for the EV6 w/701G was about 1890 at 108SS provided me w/avg 30+ yards of roll (on course)

EV7 w/901 was even lower. I avged around 1440 rpm on 5 shots. So I had to tee it up alittle more to get the launch angle up.

From posts here and abroad I'm starting to piece together the puzzle - I have gathered that the ev and rombax f series should be very similar shafts: High launch - very low spin (at the weight I'm interested in anway).

The MD-7 is mid launch Low spin. Trackman testing on a different site has the spin numbers comparing favorably to the Matrix F7M2.

The Ev and F series must be really low spin if the numbers are lower than the MD.

I would place the Kai'li in the same category as the MD series, as per Mitsubishi it is a reworked blueboard with tighter tolerances and lower spin (not as low spin as the whiteboard though).

Thanks for all the input from everyone who has posted - I wish I could hit all of them, but its just not an option as I live in Bali. I won't be able to see any high end golf gear until I'm in Singapore, and that is a few months down the road.

Finally found the guy's name: Dan Boever won the 2008 remax senior division over Mike Gorton. Dan Boever has a 120+mph ss and uses GD's MD 8 shaft mated w/cobra speed head, his winning drive was 365 and longest drive was over 400.

Also there were some about 3 others using the GD MD8 series and the quattro tech series.

  • 3 weeks later...

- so would you say the 701g launched higher than the 901?

- how does the launch angle compare to older xdrives with the same loft?

maybe that hook was because the shaft was too soft for your swingspeed.

I've noticed the newer xdrives have a shorter BBGM so the shafts should technically play stiffer thought.

I have an R9 on the way so I'll have to compare that to my af101 and 08 xdrive...so far it's been a tough decision, they are all so good.
