People have mentioned this before and ONOFF says this on their English site but sometimes I wonder if it is a translation error as it makes no sense to me to have the exact same iron produced in two different places and the one for the more expensive retail market be made in China and the one for the market where prices are generally lower to be made in Japan. I think we need to ask ONOFF to clarify this.

I dont know where you heard that but the ONOFF guys in Japan and USA clearly state that most of their items are not made in Japan. The CB247 is made in Japan.

Our website in English being designed for overseas market, country of origin for each club in English website is different from that in Japanese website. The clubs for overseas market are “made in Japan” and those for Japanese market are “made in China”.

Above is the text you mention, It really doesnt make much sense because products made in Japan and sold in Japan are not subject to duties. But products made in Japan and sent to the USA are charged duties.

IMO and I will get clarification for you directly from Daiwa is that the products are assembled in Japan for the USA and assembled in China for the Japanese market. It could be due to shipping weight or other factors. I do think they mean assembled not manufactured.
