I like it the most specially in blades. Back Sole Address Thanks Chris for the recommendation of satin over my original choice. Thanks Jacque squaring away my order issues. Much mahalo to T for handling my order w/my customization specs. Extremely fast delivery. I ordered a pair of shoes from shoes.com on the same day and these irons arrived first.... lol Edited April 8, 2009 by xchangmanx
jnims29
Those are amazing, I have long been tempted to get these. My only turn off is the upside down swoosh. I know it is for design purposes, and it is not seen from address, so i guess i have no more excuses. lol Please share a review as soon as you get a chance. gocchin
You're very welcome T and I'm glad to see you got them fast. They look awesome and definitely let us know how they play! T PS. your picture taking is looking good!
Randy
Thanks for the pics and a great looking set. Looking forward to a review. Randy
idrive
I have about 7 rounds in with mine now. I also have a couple other sets of Irons that I've been wanting to take out and hit also. It might be a while before they get the chance because these clubs are so sweet I don't see them coming out of the bag anytime soon. Even for the sake of experimenting. It will happen, just not anytime soon. I'm enjoying the amazing feel and consistency these Irons produce. I'll add that I'm hitting the ball very well. If I was needing some forgiveness I'd be playing something else. They are for the good ball striker.
xchangmanx
PS. your picture taking is looking good! Thanks T, its all in the camera as don't know the a single about photography. I think is this guy has some sort of motion stability and it takes good pictures even if the target is in motion. (I'm pretty sure there is better technology out there now but mine is old) 4 year old Cannon SD700 only 6 mpix but does me just fine, friends told me to buy cannons cuz many prefer the cannon's lenses, great quality and cheap. I'm not big into photos so I was lucky to find a camera that fit me... I bought the SD700 used for 50 bux from my friend who was going to ebay it. I hope it never breaks. Before this camera all my pictures were blurry. (I have a hard time holding still my hands) Edited March 4, 2009 by xchangmanx
Blader-X
Xchangemanx those are beautiful and thanks for the pics. Knowing Epon quality, I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Idrive, how do these Epon blades compare to the TourStage 901's?
777
Beautiful...is that finish standard or custom?
xchangmanx
Custom finish, ask any of the tsg staff when ordering... I'm sure they can assist you w/any finish you wanted. I orginally wanted the same finish as the Miura MB5003 black. Chris said they would fade easily. I went w/satin and I think it was the right decision. xchangmanx
Comparing the AF 301 to the AF Tour: These are the three irons I hit the most. Short Par 4s here in hawaii, so I generally have a 150 or less on my second shot and the pw gets the most use. PW PW compare: tour on the left 7 iron front 7 iron compare: tour on the left So far I can only say that toed shot are very forgiving and don't feel like toed shots at all. My toe shots are just a tad off the sweet spot and on the 301 it is felt coming up the shaft and it kinda feels like a dull thawak. w/the AF Tour the toe miss is very forgiving as the ball will come back in a couple yards w/the same ball flight. (very nice smooth draw) Heel shots are felt more than the AF 301 but go pretty much the same distance w/minimal loss or gain. Very workable so far for me. I will be comparing these tours to the 695 MB in the next 2 weeks, and a full review to come, after I get another 7 rounds in. jnims29
I noticed the AF-Tours do not have the carbon epon ferule. Why is that?
xchangmanx
They did not come w/the carbon ferrules from epon, I don't know why... anycase, I'm not disappointed.
gocchin
They did not come w/the carbon ferrules from epon, I don't know why... anycase, I'm not disappointed. That is odd that they did not. I will have to ask Epon why though.
gocchin
Okay checked in with Epon on the ferrules. While some initial sets may have shipped with the carbon ferrules, Epon's president made the decision to go with black ferrules for the AF-Tour to keep a traditional look. xchangmanx
Just sharing... my brothers review on the tours> "for the record" my brother has officially taken my AFTours and does not plan on returning them until he can buy a set lol My bro was playing OnOff 247s wpx6.5s. Now he has over 12 rounds already w/the AFtours since stealing them from me, I asked him what he thought about the irons performance.(brother has played almost every usdm blade and most of my clubs including the af301s and his own set of 301s and miura 247s) He says the Tours are very workable, very soft soft... he says they are softer than his tourstage xblades from 3 years ago and especially helpful at distance prediction. So far he says it is one of the most pleasing blades to look at, the feel is just perfect on impact, it takes just the right amount of turf...(commenting on the blunt leading edge for about 5 mins straight he couldn't get off the subject and was talking like a monkey on how he loves the grind as it is way better than the sole of the af301) Pulling him back on subject I asked how forgiving compared to his other sets... He says they are very forgiving despite it being in the blade class. He says a mid-capper looking to improve could play these. He would place these up there w/his 247s and will prolly be king of his bag for awhile. Bro normally uses xstiff shafts and heavy E weighted clubs... the cut shafts are perfect as we are the same height, he is just a better golfer who can slow down w/the R300s. He says the look at address and feel at impact well make up for the flexier shaft... He is saving up for a full set, he says he'll return it when he can afford 3-PW... He wanted to know if epon makes AFtour in a 2 iron? anyone? Though my bro has not had the luxury of hitting the newest JDM forgings that include the yamaha tour forge, or the TS901 blade which I think are the competition... So he cannot compare to those. (^_^) Yeah bro strikes the ball, I was a late bloomer starting in middle school... bro started elemetary years. Father taught us who plays to a +1 w/persimmon honmas still. Those persmimmons out drives both bro and me. I'm the only one who endulges in JDM equipment as I need the next gen technology for the help. Indeed the 301s at eyeball looks smaller heal to toe... but I didn't measure it... Forgivness-From when I hit them... the 301s were a tad more forgiving and has less feedback but just felt more solid than the tour... and still ranks up there as the best iron I've ever hit. I suspect its the heavy thick mass of the 301's weight distribution plus the sole width that made it more forgiving. Plus the cavity... I think the Tour's sole width is perfect for shapin' shots because the face is so easy to control coming in to impact then going through the ground, very bladeish, I found it very easy to take a smooth divot w/the Tours... Feel-Biggest difference is sound at impact, 301 sounds like a CB, and the tour has more of a cracking sound when hit solid. But the 301s feel IMO is kinda the same when you hit the sweet spot, its just that the sweet spot is larger on the 301 and its more of a click/thud w/the 301s. Other than that the miss hits are felt more w/the Tour. Like my bro said, distance control is excellent on pured shots... When I first played the tour, the initial impression I had was great distance control, even when I "caught it just right" it has that really soft epon feel... I though I over shot the distance, but ended up at the correct yardage... when I get my irons back I'll post a full review.
